We are flying into Long Beach the day before the cruise and want to rent a car. The problem I need help with is: if we rent the car at the airport and stay in San Pedro. Then we have to go back to Long Beach Arpt to drop-off the car. Which means luggage and kids dragged back to take a shuttle or taxi from the airport to the pier. Does anyone know of a rental car company near the port. Has anyone else rented a car before the cruise, and how did you handle the drop off.
The larger companies - with multiple locations - will let you drop the car at any of their locations then shuttle you back to the dock. I would imagine most would have locations right in Long Beach. TTFN Jennifer
A group of us sailed from San Pedro in January. Nothing much to see there. We were going to rent a car, but by the time we made it from LAX (Red Van Shuttle) the traffic was bad and it was pouring rain. We decided to stay in the hotel.
I did have a mini-van reserved from Enterprise. They have an office not too far from the port. I would call the office direct and see if they will let you pick up in LGB and drop in San Pedro. Since they are all indepently owned, they may not.
Otherwise, stay in LGB and use SuperShuttle (Blue Vans) to take you back and forth. We returned to LAX on them with no problem, no hassels. Picked us up right out side the terminal. Besides, I didn't ahve to deal with that wonderful LA traffic and drop a car.
We just came back from a cruise that started in San Pedro. We had to drop the rental car off at Long Beach Airport then had to to take a $40.00 taxi to the dock. Considering that there were four of us, it was a great deal.
We have rented from Enterprise at LGB airport and returned to the Enterprise location directly across from the San Pedro pier. They have a shuttle to pick up and drop off at the pier. I believe there was an extra fee for a one-way rental.
I flew into LAX last December and took a shuttle to the Best Western in San Pedro at a cost of $15.00. Best Western provides shuttle service to the cruise ship docks. For more info, search LAX shuttles or enter primetimeshuttles.com. Courteous drivers, air conditioned van. Lot cheaper than the cruise ship shuttle buses. The Best Western is across the street from the Maritime Museum, a great Mexican restaurant and the waterfront area is loaded with shops, restaurants and fishing charters. I spent the entire day exploring the waterfront area and particularly enjoyed the mariachi bands at the waterfront mexican restaurants. There's a lot to do in San Pedro. Enjoy.
