Default Vancouver BC Hotels

Hi and Merry Christmas to all! We got with our TA the other day and booked our flight to Vancouver for arrival a day prior to the cruise. She suggested staying at the Sandman Suites on Davie. Has anyone stayed there before, and can recommend it. Or perhaps have any other suggestions on hotels in the area?

Thanks

Hi - I would suggest maybe going for another hotel in a different area. Davie Street is noted for being a "hooker stroll" and not the nicest part of town. It is near the beach but sort of the opposite side of Vancouver you want to be on. There are much nicer hotels nearer the cruise terminal and the Robson Street area, and the shopping is nicer as well. Any other questions please feel free to ask - we live just a few minutes away and dh works downtown.

Ms_ Kalamity,
We have stayed in Vancouver twice this year and fell in love with the city!!
We booked our hotels thru Priceline. We bid the Vancouver downtown area and 4* only! In May we got the Hyatt on Burrard for $80/night then for September we bid again and got the Sheraton Wall for $80. We stayed 2 nights at each and had a wonderful time. If you bid for a 4*, I don't think you can go wrong.

More tips that worked for us. 1. At the airport we paid for R/T limo service for our hotel. It is a flat fee where a cab varies depending on traffic. 2. We used our credit card as much as we could in Canada because they give a better exchange rate for a very small fee. No worries about carrying $ either.

Theresa has a great tip about the Limo from the airport. We used it and managed to find another couple going our way - so the flat rate was split between four of us and it worked out to about half the cost of a cab - and what a ride.

Thanks for the info! How would I go about finding information on the limo service fees etc online? Do they perhaps have a web site that I could check out?

Sorry we got off on the wrong foot too Jennifer.

Thanks Jane

Hi - not sure if we are allowed to post web site addresses but the service at YVR and downtown Vancouver is called limojetgold - if you put a .com after that you will find it.

There was a limo/taxi counter as you are walking out of the airport. After paying with our credit card and getting a receipt, they directed outside to the p/u area. No advance purchance necessary. There is also the big green Airporter bus that takes you to and from for $12CDN.

The Sheraton Wall Center is a beautiful property and can be had through Priceline for around $80 USD.

Good evening,
I think we've been '' talking'' on another thread ( RCCL)...
The Sandman suites on Davie has been recently renovated top to bottom, and is a good quality hotel, but not in a very attractive part of town.As other posters have suggested, you can find hotels ,reasonnably priced, and in better areas; also closer to your port ( Ballantyne pier ).
Marriott, Renaissance, Fairmont,Delta,Four Seasons and Hyatt all have good hotels, and you '' squeeze'' priceline.ca succesfully, you can hit those at a good rate, and be real close to shopping/attractions/and the piers ( both Canada Place and Ballantyne ).If you use our green YVR Airporter service, they will drop you off at any of the above named hotels.
A cab ride to the pier will run approx C$27.
Another hotel , nicely located, on Robson, gorgeous views,is Empire Landmark: even without priceline.ca, you can hit just over $C100 for that one and it's a steal.
Smart move to arrive in our great city the day before ( I think I told you that before....)

Cheers
CG

Appreciate the info, I have never dealt with priceline before, so I am not sure how it works. Perhaps tommorrow I will go online and check it out. Does anyone know anything about the Best Western Sands close to Stanley Park. I have a Best Western "Mileage" card and was looking into that one just because of that. I know it is further away from the piers, yet closer to Stanley Park which really sounds nice.

Thanks and Have a Happy New Year.
