Default Hotel in San Juan...

My family and I are taking a cruise in October from San Juan and want to fly in the day before to check out the sites especially Old San Juan, can you give me some suggestions on moderate priced hotels that are close to the action, preferably walking distance.

Thanks
Jen

Jen:

Hotel prices in San Juan tend to be high. I booked a 3* last year on hotwire that when we got there was more like a 1.75* and paid a little over $100 for the night (and it wasn't in Old San Juan). Wasn't bad for one night, but I'm not planning on staying there again this year. If you're looking to book in Old San Juan nothing that I've found so far is "moderately priced". The Sheraton Old San Juan is right across the street from the pier. Less than a mile away is Hotel Milano. Also in Old San Juan are El Covento Hotel and Chateau Cervantes. For the time frame we're going Hotel Milano is the least expensive @ $150/night.

One of my co-workers stayed here, http://www.hotelmilanopr.com/

This hotel apparently is right in Old San Juan on a main street or something. Mind you, my co-worker isn't rich, so he said it's a very basic, non-frills place. So if you are just looking for a place to crash without all the casino's, multi-million dollar decorations....
