Default Miami Hyatt Regency - can we walk to the port?

Thanks to you all for recommending priceline -- I got a room for $110 (plus their "fee"). I'm wondering if this is close enough to the cruise dock to just amble over (obviously we'll have loads of time), or if we will need transportation. I've heard the "downtown" locations are so close you can walk, as long as you can carry your luggage. Do you know?

I don't recall seeing any sidewalks. And the way the semi-trucks go through there.. no way I'd try to walk on the road.

The port of Miami is actually an island in the middle of Biscayne Bay. There is one roadway/bridge onto the island, which begins at a place which is about a 30 minute walk from the Hyatt. From the beginning of the bridge (and it is a bridge I would not feel safe walking on....not from the possibility of getting mugged, but due to the possibility of getting hit by a car), you would have an additional 5-25 minute walk to your ship.

You should be able to get a cab from the Hyatt, and it would cost about $10 to go to the port.

I totally agree with above advice. I used to live in Miami, and would never dream of trying to cross that bridge/causeway on foot, even without luggage. Had a bus tear the rear view mirror off my car one time driving across. Once they hit that bridge, some of them pretend they can fly. Get a cab, please.

Thank you all for your helpful advice. I had heard that the "downtown hotels" were all "right by the cruise dock". Clearly this doesn't mean "right across the street!" So thank you for letting me know that a cab seems the only good way to get to the dock.

Mateli, I'm surprised that you jumped to the conclusion that I was penny-pinching, without considering all the other possibilities. I love to walk, I value the exercise, and I know we will all be eager to get on the ship to start our vacation "in the sun". But I've also heard that they don't let you on the boat before 11:30 or 12:30 or so. I was just wondering if walking over (I live in Boston where almost everything is a walkable distance) was one way to enjoy our morning in Miami...

Thank you Mateli, I appreciate the sincere apology, and I can tell that you will probably hesitate next time before "shaming" someone online who is just looking for information. Thanks to this board, I really do feel very comfortable knowing what to expect, and since I'm easily disappointed, I truly appreciate all of the info and advice to help set my expectations realistically! Thanks, again for your reply.

The Hyatt is about a 6 or 7 block from Bayside MarketPlace. I haven't stayed there, but have stayed at InterContinental which is between Bayside and the Hyatt.

Not a difficult walk.

If you do a search on any search engine, type in Port of Miami and click on the photo's. There's a few that show the highway going to the pier.

Not walkable.
