I stayed there April 25 to the 26th this year. I have no big complaints. I liked the location because it's across the street from Bayview Marketplace and Bubba Gumps restaurant. The area is so so in terms of taking a walk alone at night. The hotel itself was clean and the staff polite. It's not a 5 star hotel but it's also not the motel 6. I thought the hotel was good for a one night stay. I would book it again.

I stayed there for one night pre-cruise on May 29th. I would stay there again if I needed a place for one night before a cruise. There is a Walgreens within walking distance, a liquor store and the Bayfront Marketplace with many restaurants and wonderful shopping is just across the street.
I would not go there for my vacation. The halls and elevators do have a slight musty smell but it is not enough to really bother you for one night. The rooms are extremely clean, the bathrooms are smaller but immaculate. Catching a taxi to the port is beyond easy. I didn't feel scared at all after dark between the hotel and the Marketplace.
The only other place that I found might interest me was the Intercontinental but I wasn't sure I could get the rate down enough to be affordable.
Don't forget, this hotel has a high-turnover. Day in & day out because its a hotel close to the cruise pier. So it has alot of people and alot of use.
So it gets worn & torn faster as do all high-use hotels.
I know the Intercontinental continues to get good reviews.
As for the musty smell, well you are in the tropics! You can't control dampness when AC's are cranked all day long. Inside is cold, outside is hot. Do the math.

You need to look at the address of the review...ther are 2 of these hotels..one is on Miami Beach and one is Miami. The one across from Bayview is fine. We stayed there and had no issues.

We have stayed in the Intercontinental twice. A very nice hotel, but a bit pricy. However talk your way into a bay-front room high up and you can have a super view of the cruise ships! Also you are only about 200 yds from Bayside. Not a bad walk at all.

I was seriously considering Intercontinental based on the reviews on Tripadvisor and the pics posted.
But we decided to splurge & stay on Miami Beach instead. I'll never know if I'll ever be back to Miami & you only live once. So what the heck.
On top of that, we have crappy beaches here. You can't see 6 inches past your knees in the water & its just way too cold and dark. So to look at a beautiful beach and water was more inspiring in the decision.

Has anyone recently stayed at the Holiday Inn? Curious as to condition of hotel, etc. Reading good and bad reviews about the hotel. Looking to fly in a night before in May of '09.

I will be finding out first hand on Feb 18-19 , before I cruise
on the Jewel of the seas 10 days -Panama canal. I have read more good reviews than bad ones. its close to the port and lots of stores around the hotel. iT SHOULD BE A GOOD 2 DAYS
We have stayed there several times, never a problem.
The location is ideal, you can stroll over to Bayside, eat shop people watch.
WE go over to eat there and wander around listening to the live music.
We always ask for a room overlooking the port and you can sit and watch your ship as it comes in.
I spent 3 days there last month, 2 days before and 1 day after the cruise
The place was clean and service was excellent, pay a visit to Bay side.
Very nice . Had supper in a different restaurant each night.
I had a room facing the port. I could see the ships come in the
morning and leaving in the afternoon.
What I didn`t like was that there were no stores in the Hotel to
by a book or any snacks or clothes. you had to buy the buffet in the morning. enough though there was a menu. a small pool and very little shade . Its okay for 1 or 2 days . next time I will try another Hotel
I was planning to stay there when I cruise in October. For just a 1 night stay it sounds fine and it appears you are only a few minutes from the port. Thanks for the helpful advice !!
