We're taking a cruise out of Southampton and want to do 2 nts in London before the cruise. Has anyone done this. How did you get from Heathrow Airport to the hotel in London and how did you get to the ship from the hotel? We would really appreciate any info we could get. Any advice where to stay that's not too pricy and what is the best area to stay that's near the transfer to Southampton?
Thanks,
Lisa and Bob
We were there last month and will be doing the same next year. We stayed at the Hilton Paddington. We took the Heathrow Express right in the terminal to Paddington and walked about 100 feet to the hotel. So easy. We cruised out of Harwich and used Silver Fleet Transfers. They picked us up at our hotel and returned us. We didn't have to take a cab to Victoria station or drag our luggage around like we would of if we chose the ships transfers. Next year we plan to stay at the Hilton Heathrow and take either the train, National Express or use Silver Fleet again to Southampton

Not sure what info you want/need. If you do book it, ask for a room in the main part of hotel not in the back. Ask for a converter for hair straighteners/curling irons. They have a hair dryer and iron in the room. We paid about $575 for 3 nights. You can see pictures on their website.
I have always stayed at the Parklane Hilton in London. It is across the street from Hyde Park, ten minute walk from Bukingham Palace, Harrods, and about 15 minute walk to Big Ben. A block away from Hotel is the Original Hard Rock Cafe, which opened in 1971. The top floor has a view of London. Just wonderful.

Hi,
Stayed in London a few weeks ago. My recommendation is the Columbia Hotel at Lancaster Gate. Price is approx. 70 GBP for single - 89 GBP for double. This includes full English breakfast. Very central and very, very clean. Room included private bathroom. We booked a shuttle from Heathrow to hotel through a service called Dot2Dot. Cost was 17 GBP.
To get to Southampton, you can taxi to Victoria Coach Station (about 10GBP) and take a coach (National Express) to Southampton. A good place to stay in Southampton is the Dolphin Hotel. Very near the port. It is reasonable and again ... clean.
