Default Hotels in Puerto Rico that I liked

Hi everyone,

We just returned from a 7-day RCI cruise leaving out of Puerto Rico and had a pre and post stay.

Our pre-stay was at the Marriott Stelaris Resort and Casino and service-wise this was by far the best hotel we have stayed at.. period. And just to put that in perspective we have stayed at hotels well above $700 a night. From the doorman to the bellboy to the check-in desk to the restaurant, pool boys etc.. the service was not only swift, polite and accurate but was complete with lots of extra tips that were really helpful to give us a lay of the land.

Marriott is definitely a family-oriented hotel. It has a great 2-ft pool with fountains that our 2-year old really loved. So if you have a 2-4 year old I would highly recommend this hotel, definitely worth the price of the stay. Its right on the beach with free lounge chairs and umbrellas. The room was fairly standard, fairly new and nothing to complain about.

The best thing I like about the hotel was the location.. it is surrounded by a ton of great restaurants with all different kinds of food all within walking distance even for our 2-year old. Also the Walgreens is right next door so we were able to buy a lot of stuff that came to be useful on the ship like juice boxes etc.

Our post-stay was at the Ritz Carlton and although the one day we spent there was probably the most relaxing of the entire trip, there were a few things in the room that annoyed us - the shower curtain was dirty, and the tub wouldn't drain fast enough (took over an hour), not the kinds of issues I would expect to have at a Ritz. The service although good was not as friendly as the Marriott. Also be prepared to drop a penny of meals, Breakfast buffet with eggs was $26 before tax for example. But everything at the Ritz is high-end as expected.. Blvgari toiletries, Wedgewood silverware etc. There are almost no restaurants near the hotel was be prepared to drive. It is also right on the beach and it is a great beach for swimming, gentle slope, soft (though dark) sand, with free Ritz lounge chairs and umbrellas. We had lunch on the lounge chairs, the beach boys were great.

Would we go back to the Ritz ? probably, but only if we had a car so that we could drive to other places to eat.

We stayed at the Marriott Stellaris Resort & Casino for two nights post cruise last fall on the Caribbean Princess ... great resort and safe area for walking about at night to restaurants and such ... the room overlooked the ocean ... spectacular view ... the pool area is great and bonus there is a casino (and they gave us $30 dollars each in match play coupons) ... there is a drug store down the way not far that sells anything you need for the room (munchies, snacks, pop - mix, oj, etc) ... not far from Old San Juan or the airport and cruise dock either ...
