I am planning a cruise that leaves from San Juan and am looking for a decent hotel to stay in the night before and for the last night of the cruise. There will be 6-10 of us and would prefer it close to cruise ship terminal and airport if possible since it will be our first time there. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. It was a short ride from the airport as well as to the pier. There are plenty of places around there to shop and dine.
Life is too short to let the ship of your dreams sail without you.

I stayed at the Caribe Hilton 3 times and the Ritz Carlton once. My favorite by far was the Caribe Hilton, although the Ritz was nice.
The Hilton has a Morton's steakhouse on site, a couple of nice pools, a swim up bar, regular bars, and a restaurant outside where you can get burgers, chicken fingers, etc... and eat at the tables outside or at the bar. There is also a beach on site.
Food and drinks are pricey, but it was a lot of fun. (My first stay 2 out of 4 of us didn't make dinner thanks to the swim up bar).
I can't remember how far it is from the airport or pier, but I didn't think it was too far. We just took a taxi.
We stayed right in Old San Juan at Da House. Its a great boutique hotel a couple of blocks from the cruise pier. Couldn't beat the price or location. We loved it and will definitely stay there again when cruising out of San Juan.

Right across from the pier, in downtown Old San Juan is the Sheraton. Perfect location to shop and dine while you oggle the ships across the street...
The funny thing is, believe it or not, you need to take a cab to get to the pier, with your luggage..this happened to friends of mine staying there, when it was the Wyndham..they will not get your luggage across the street for you...unless things have changed.
Trip, with her book & tea!
