Any hotel in Rome that cruisers can recommend.. preferably within walking distance of Trevi Fountain.. and including some sort of continental breakfast, Oh yes...not too expensive..
Not sure about the hotel but if you will be near Trevi Fountain, walk around the corner to San Crispino (Il gelato di San Crispino - San Crispino Ice Cream) and have the best gelato in the world. If they have one with meringue you will feel like you died and went to heaven.
Some there say..
" Rome Luxury Hotels: Hotel de Russie, Rome Official Site, Five Star Hotel in Rome, Italy A Rocco Forte Hotel
Living in Rome I can tell you the St. Regis is not in the same class as the Waldorf Cavalieri or the Hassler. I've stayed at the Cavalier a few times and it was wonderful, albeit out of town. I like the Hassler location (top of the Spanish Steps) and of course it's the hotel that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes stayed in when they came for their wedding at the castle at Lake Bracciano. The Hotel Russie, as suggested. is also wonderful, and a great location just off Piazza di Popolo. There are also many "grand" hotels on Via Veneto near the US Embassy.
Roma Airport limousine
For 35 Euros a driver met us outside customs, brought us to his nearby E Class Mercedes, and drove us to the hotel.
Another option is the Sheraton Roma. It is about 5 miles from downtown. It offer a courtesy bus to/from the City Center (Piazza Venezia) on a scheduled basis, with departures every 90 minutes. Also has an airport shuttle."

20 years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs. Now we have no Cash, no Hope and no Jobs. Please don't let Kevin Bacon die.
I stayed at the Sheraton Roma. I really liked the free shuttle. We just had to meet the driver at the assigned locations. Took a lot of the worry away about how to get around the city. I don't remember what the rooms were like (going back a number of years now) and we used points so I'm not sure of the price either. The have a restaurant on site that I remember being quite good as well.
I think it was just the airport and the city center at Via Petroselli. I see now that it lists "for a small fee" but it was free when I went. We tipped the driver aftfer every trip though. I believe it runs to late into the evening as well.
The metro system is super easy to use in Rome. It reminded me a lot of Bay Area Rapid Transport (BART). So I picked an inexpensive hotel near the Metro System, we took metro to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. I didn't like my Roman Hotel so I can't recommend it here.
There is a great clothing store near the Spanish Steps for plus sized women. The sale clerks could look at you and pick out your correct size. I got a great skirt there. The store is called Pitran Donna here is the website. PITRAN taglie forti

At least I have the names of several hotels..one i had booked for last year and cancelled and several other cruises happened to mention it too.. With Parrot Pops rollator I don't think the subway is do-able.. Couldnt get to the clothing site, but I remember distinctly the Spanish Stairs.. It's funny about the gelato shop.. a couple with us insisted they wanted to go to specific places (we didn't)..lol because they read in or saw it on tv.. Going to travel show next month and hope to push buttons with Celebrity about a handicapped cabin for Parrot Pop..my t/a is a pain in the butt and wanted to sell us an Aqua category, but it looks like they maybe sold out..plus the price has really risen

I can second that! I had the meringue too, but liked some sort of carmel combo the best. Very good.

Well heck let me try this again. Uomo is the men's store and Donna is the women's store. The website is in Italian, but it has lots of pictures. PITRAN

We booked the Hotel Sonya.. family owned operation and highly thought of by cruisers on another board.. t his is the hotel we had cancelled last year. One of the pluses is they give you a ticket I guess for the Hop on Hop Off Bus which will be a plus.. Several of the other cruisers are staying at the airport..but although two nights won't be enough in Rome I'm going to give it a good old fashioned try..Don't want to spend days getting on and off the Metro..lol Google Hotel Sonya... October should be a great time weather wise in Rome...http://www.hotelsonya.it/
We'll be interested in your report. We are planning on spending two days post-cruise in June. Not enough time I know, but should whet the appetite to return.

SORRY, but we aren't cruising from Rome until 10/18 this year.. but check out various forums..very positive reviews...
We stayed at the Hotel Artemide Roma - it is relatively close to Termini Station if the train plays into your plans. It was an easy walk to Trevi and a straight shot to the top of the Spanish Steps. Plus it was an easy downhill to the northern end of the forum, almost spilling out at the Alter of the Nation.
We booked directly with the hotel for about 240 Euros a night for a classic room that included free breakfast, wi-fi and mini-bar. The hotel has a beautiful terrace with distant views of the dome of St. Peter's.

Rome is an expensive city, but remember, most of the sights you'll want to see are free. For everything else, we have a few suggestions for maintaining your Cheapo budget.Nice resource!!

We did stay at the Hotel Sonya and found it to be delightful. Staff is very helpful and gives you maps and books to help you get around. The continental breakfast was more than substantial for us. Yes,we found Rome to be very, very expensive compared to Spain. Taxis as we found out are very inexpensive.. do not try the buses..somehow or other tourists get pick pocketed at an alarming rate.. We did find taxis to be very affordable.. One thing, if you have never ben to Rome...spend the extra $$ and hire a guide, you can see so much more. Last trip.. and sadly it was our last trip.. We went to the Spanish Stairs, Plaza Navarone (not to be missed), Trevi Fountain and several other places. Previously on other trips we had gone to the Coluseum and the secret little spot where you are in a square and are in Malta
