I am taking a cruise in the near future from Fort Lauderdale. I am looking for a hotel, moderately priced($150) that has free shuttle to the airport and the cruise pier. I would also like a free breakfast. I would prefer it either to have a good restaurant or to be near ( walking distance ) from a good restaurant.
It appears that the hotels near the beachfront are more expensive, the ones near the airport seem to be better priced but are far from everything.
I don't know of any hotels with free shuttles to either the pier or airport but in FT Lauderdale it is somewhat a moot point because both are so close to the hotels and to each other.
The average cab from airport to hotel is $20. Most hotels have shuttles that cost $5 to $8 to the cruise ship. (I often get on one for free if there is a group going on a bus and they have a spare seat - but it is a little different if you have a lot of luggage and two people).
But in the long run, just budget for transfers and look for a reasonably priced hotel. Your budget should only need to be about $30 to $50 at the most.
The Hampton Inn Airport North does have the complimentary shuttles for both the airport and the cruise port, but the downsides are the free breakfast isn't very good there and there are only some fast food places nearby. I stay there because they are otherwise great and having fastfood for dinner and breakfast is fine with me. Plus they have a shopping center with a supermarket (Winn Dixie I think) next door.
Depending on when your cruise is, you can get a nice room at the Embassy Suites on 17th Street for around $150. Very nice free breakfast with the made-to-order omelets, the free happy hour, and there are several restaurants nearby, (an Outback, and an Irish pub across the street are two examples). Also, there is a shopping mall behind it, The Harbor Shops, with several dining choices. They sell seats on a shuttle to your ship for just $10 per person. I think they have an airport shuttle for free.
If you try Priceline, plug in 4 star downtown, you will end up on A1A, near the port... Pier 66/the Renaissance/Embassy Suites..start low for your price,to end up where you want to be price wise. Fine dining, for example, the Bimini Boatyard is available here, and a cab ride from this area, to the port is reasonable.
Trip, with her book & tea!
