Actually, Kuki is right. I've been on 2 baja cruises, and I have a third scheduled in January. Spending an hour in town to shop and go to Papa's & Beer is enough. Then we go back to the ship and just relax. There just isn't enough relaxation time alloted on the 3 or 4 day cruise. The Bufadore tour (blow hole) is OK, and the ocean is gorgeous there. I would not take the ship tour to the Bufadore. As you take the little bus from the ship to the exit of the harbor, the guides will direct you to the place to get on the same tour for 1/2 the price...and it includes lunch! Just go and relax!

RE: MEXICAN CRUISE ENSENADA

louis,

As best I can tell, cruise lines primarily use Ensenada as a port of embarkation for ships that are going to Hawaii and as a port of debarkation for ships coming back to North America from Hawaii because a U. S. law called the "Jones Act" forbids any ship of foreign flag from permanently debarking passengers in the United States who embarked at a different U. S. port unless the ship has, in the interim, called at a "distant" foreign port. The "Panama Canal" cruises between Florida and California have ports of call en route on Aruba, Curacao, or the South American contenent -- all of which are "distant" under U. S. law -- and thus are legal.

Norm.

MEXICAN CRUISE ENSENADA

My 13 year old son thought Ensenada was one of the coolest ports he had ever been to. We were there recently on our 5th cruise. He discovered that many of the shops sell firecrackers and have NO reservations about selling them to kids. As soon as he and his brother walked into one store the fellow working there went up to them and asked, "Do you want explosives?" There is a port for everyone I guess...
