The caves you might be talking about area near Aktun Chen (about a 40 min. drive south of Playa del Carmen). Supposedly there is no snorkeling there, but the water is very, very pure & oil from your skin will float on it! I read there is good snorkeling at a lagoon north of Akumal called Yal-Ku. Sorry I can't give you more info. but I read about this on one of the messageboards myself.

I think the best deal is the Palancar Beach Club on Coz. No cave snorkeling that I know about after about 15 trips there, but I am prepared to be surprised.

the cave snorkeling you may have heard about could be in Xcaret - if so, save your money

Chankanaab Park had one cave with huge fish in it but you'll need to scuba not snorkel to get in there....only $10 cab ride one way to park and it is very nice....has clean showers and nice rest./bars in park....also has dolphin encounter at this park, maybe cheaper than from ship....we just got back and spent 4 hours at park and we thought everything was just great.....very clean and water crystal clear and many fish. Buy an underwater camera ($7?) at Walmart and you'll save a bunch from ship prices...
