We will be on the ship carnival fascination porting in cozumel one day june 12, 2002 I have been on line and read about different places to snorkel but not sure which would be the best place. Also I read about snorkeling in caves if anyone knows where you can do this in cozumel please let me know.
The caves you might be talking about area near Aktun Chen (about a 40 min. drive south of Playa del Carmen). Supposedly there is no snorkeling there, but the water is very, very pure & oil from your skin will float on it! I read there is good snorkeling at a lagoon north of Akumal called Yal-Ku. Sorry I can't give you more info. but I read about this on one of the messageboards myself.
Chankanaab Park had one cave with huge fish in it but you'll need to scuba not snorkel to get in there....only $10 cab ride one way to park and it is very nice....has clean showers and nice rest./bars in park....also has dolphin encounter at this park, maybe cheaper than from ship....we just got back and spent 4 hours at park and we thought everything was just great.....very clean and water crystal clear and many fish. Buy an underwater camera ($7?) at Walmart and you'll save a bunch from ship prices...
