My family and I will be sailing on Enchantment on the 9th of March and one of the excursions that RCI offer is the Jungle Beach Break in Costa Maya. It cost $36 USD per person so for a family of five I am looking at just under $300 Canadian dollars for a trip to the beach. I think that RCI is taking the piss, big time
Can I get a taxi to take us to a beach and is it easy to get back and forth to the ship?
I know others will disagree, some quite vocally, but we did not find the Jungle Beach Break was worth the cost. Bar area was not clean and there were jelly fish in the water the day we were there. The bus ride was long and uncomfortable since I think the buses were retired from NYC 30 years ago. Wished we had stayed at the pier and spent money there for drinks. But, that's just my opinion. I'm sure Nanette will disagree and invite you to see her pictures.
On a cruise last December we too went on the Jungle Beach Break. I have to agree with philm; it wasn't worth anywhere near what we spent. A lot of people apparrently felt the same, and didn't come...there were very few people on the beach the day we were there.
The beach was just okay; food is extra but the drinks are free. There's no snorkeling, but you can rent water toys like wave runners - I think the paddle boats were free.
Unfortunately, the beach near the pier in Costa Maya isn't much to speak of either. There is a large pool in the shopping complex, but we didn't want to spend the day there - too many kids and people all over the place. The people we spoke to who had a great time went to the ruins or remained on the ship! The shopping (if you're into that kind of stuff) was probably good. But we didn't come to Costa Maya to go shopping. Prices were better in Cozumel anyway.
I will NOT return to Costa Maya anytime soon. I didn't care for the attitudes of the Mexican's I spoke to who worked in the area (all transplanted from Cancun). I made sure our cruise next December DOESN'T go to Costa Maya.
