Cozumel - Carlos and Charlies

We will be in Cozumel in a few weeks on the Imagination. First time. I thought we would tour the ruins in Tulum. However, I keep hearing about Carlos and Charlies. Could someone please tell me more about it. It sounds like a do not miss.
Thank you
Bobbie

If you are in Cozumel until like 11:00 p.m. etc. then you can do both - take your tour once you're back to the ship grab a cab into the city. If your leave about 5:00 ish then it's one or the other. Just depends on what you want to do, the ruins in Tulum are spectactular and if you want the culture of Mexico, etc. then Tulum is it but if you want relaxing fun, fun, CRAZY fun Carlos and Charlies with walking around town.

Is it save to walk to "town" from the docks during the day?? About how far is it. If not cost of cab?

Just got back yesterday and visited Carlos & Charlies. It had been recommended to us as well. The restaurant was a 15 minute cab ride into town from the pier. Standard cab fee was $6 and a cab stand is right outside the restaurant. It's a party atmosphere, loud, people dancing around, etc. We enjoyed it. We were tired after the catamaran sail & snorkel excursion (awesome!) and shopping so we sat on the restaurant's outer fringe where it was open to the outside which was nice. Food was good and moderately priced.

You say there is a 15 min. cab ride to town from the pier??

We were in coz last year on princess and the ship was right there in town.

We just walked (about 5mins) down the pier and we were in town.

Do RCI ships dock in another place??

We were planning to drop the kids off at the ship and go out to Carlos and Charlies for a few but not if it's a 15 min CAB ride.

Thanks

RCI ships dock right at the Market-for lack of a better word. Downtown is a $6.00 small taxi ride-about 8-10 minutes. We rented a dune buggy safari/tour and it was the highlight of my teen' s trip. Check out Shoretrips.com

There are 3 piers in Cozumel. the 'main pier' is the one in the center of town with the big Mexican flag. C&C is pretty much right across the street. The other 2 piers are within 2 or so miles.

If you're traveling with children you might want to avoid Carlos and Charlies. It can get pretty crazy. Great place for adults, not for kids.

Re: tfreeme

We will be on Carnival June 13th and will dock in Cozumel.

Is Carnival located on one of the main docks in the center of town?

About about many people does the catamaran hold?

Also how long did your catamaran sail and snokrel excursion last and did you book thru your ship? Very expensive?

Can't wait to sail!

Thanks for any info you would like to share!

We did the catamaran sail and snorkel with Mayan Paradise Tours on the Zorro. It was $45 to snorkel and $70 to snuba. It was a 4 hour, fun-filled trip. I highly recommend it. We booked directly with them via their website - www.snubacozumel.com. Have fun!

on Carnival 2 weeks ago, we docked at the International Pier which is right in the middle of town... a new mall at the end of the gangway, and lots of shops down the strip... all within walking distance... although the sidewalks are very narrow & crowded and the streets are crazy... in other words BE CAREFUL !!!

have fun !
