Default Zihuatanejo/ Ixtapa

The Mercury stops at Zihuatanejo/ Ixtapa Mexico on our way to Acapulco. Does anyone have any ideas what we should do at that port. Nothing that the cruise line offers appeals to us.

We *really* enjoyed just strolling around Zijuatenejo ... ended up stopping for some drinks and food along where the fishermen pull up their boats.

Great Ixtapa/Z site for general info:

Also, a lot of people went over to Las Gatas beach (which is accessible only by water taxi).

It's a beautiful port, and the seaside scenery alone was worth the stop there. To top it off, when we left, we both agreed this was a port that we wanted to see again.

Listen to Harry, he keeps his eyes and ears to the ground when it comes to Mexico. One of the best individuals I know that has the insight to Mexico and excursions to do.

Ahhh shucks!

My sister is hitting Loreto in January on HAL ... that's one I would like to see.

Also, have you noticed on HAL that they are now offering Copper Canyon Tours??? I think (or would presume) these are done by train. If I recall, the port stay is till 10 p.m. in order to allow the tour.

We took a cab - driven by Roberto, a nice guy. Met him in the harbor, told him what we wanted to do, how long and discussed the price.
He drove us around Zihuatenejo, stopped for a drink at a nice little hotel on a beautiful beach there. Then on to Ixtapa, again with some nice stops. He explained a lot on the way.
About 2 hrs later he dropped us on the market near the harbor.
Total cost just US $ 20,- for the 2 of us.
