we are so excited! we're leaving march 26th on the diamond princess to PV, mazatlan and cabo. we have the marietas islands shore excursion booked through the ship for PV (has anybody been on that? what did you think?) but we have nothing planned for mazatlan or cabo. can you all recommend what to do/see on our own and places to have lunch? really appreciate it!
The Marietas are okay, but a bit boring. The blue-footed boobie colony is most interesting. Be sure to take binoculars so you can see them close. Maybe you'll see their beautiful mating dance.
However, If this were my first visit to P.V. I wouldn't go and look at the big rock with the blue footed boobies. Puerto Vallarta is a magnificent city and it is a shame to spend your day looking at one big rock, or so it seems to me.
In Cabo, you can do the glass bottom boat ride and book at the pier ($12 a person). It takes you around Los Arcos etc for 45 mins. The restaurants along the marina are all nice, with great views.
In Mazatlan, I would recommend the colonial village tour to Copola. We did it thru the cruiseline and privately, and we loved the private tour (8 passenger van). See more at www.mazatlan-tours.com Frank comes highly recommended, and he will take yo0u back to the Golden Zone for a nice lunch on the beach. He will also group you with others if your party cannot fill the van. Very nice man.
You will love the Diamond. Check out the photo galleries I uploaded ... just search my name.
