Default Mexican Riviera

Hello All - New to the board. We are taking an 11-day Mexican Riviera cruise aboard the Celebrity Mercury 04/17/2006. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary. We both love to snorkle, and I love to shop. Seeking any advise/information from the experts. Thanks!

NDW: I can help a little with the snorkeling. Your best bets in Cabo San Lucas are Bahia Chileno and Playa Santa Maria. The closest to the tender landing would be Lover's Beach (short water taxi ride), but this location is only fair at best. Chileno and Santa Maria are located along the corridor, about 5 miles outside of town. Los Arcos in Puerto Vallarta can be "iffy" and certainly was that when we tried it (wife also took a few stings from jellyfish). Have not snorkeled in Mazatlan but heard Deer and Stone Island are two locations which can also be "iffy". We will be trying Stone Island in October. Have snorkeled on Isla Ixtapa, a small island that is a short water taxi ride away from Ixtapa. This location was fairly good. No help for Manzanillo or Acapulco. The best snorkeling on your itinerary, IMO, will probably be in Cabo San Lucas. Having said that, it won't be anything close to snorkeling Hawaii, the Caribbean, Tahiti or the Galapagos.

04/17/06-11-day Celebrity Mercury out of San Diego: Caba San Lucus; Mazatlan; Puerto Vallarta; Acapulco; Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa; and Manzinillo. We are celebrating 20 years together!
We love to snokle, take in spa treatments, sightsee, and of course shop. I understand snokeling is not the greatest, but we live in the desert to anything is a treat. I also wanted to look for some jewelry. Any avdise, suggestions, hints, would be greatly appreciaed.

I found that the prices of silver jewelery became more expensive as we traveled up the riveria. P.V. had the best deals and Cabos was most expensive. I did buy gorgeous earring in Cabos though, as they were so different.

Gosh, there are silver shops everywhere. Main thing I've heard is to not buy on the street, because it's not usually pure silver.

10 years ago on my first trip to Pv I was engaged to be marrried and It was my last trip with my family. It was a land based trip and I spent the week on the beach in front of the Buenaventura shopping out of the black brief cases that they come around with for jewelery. I only knew to look for the stamp, 925 and I decided to buy our wedding rings from one of these cases. I paid $10.00 each. I have been wearing my ring for 10 years, my husband lost his at the lake, too much water and sunscreen combination. We loved our rings so much that the next time we went he bought another but it wasn't the same silver quality even though it had the stamp, I think we got very lucky the first time because susequent times we have been a little disappointed but I don't spend much so I don't feel too bad when it isn't the best quality. There are shops that sell silver everywhere, shop around, most of it is the same and prices really vary. I love shopping PV!!!!! They will usually bargan and the stores that won't are marked that the prices are firm.
Happy shopping, Kristine

I went to PV in April and I noticed that even in the stores they were selling Alpaca (plated). I was telling people to look for 3 stamps (.925, Mexico and a manufactures number) but now the vendors stamp it on too. In Mazatlan, normally there is no problem with the stores, but in PV I guess it is a different story. I would say ask for a reputable store. In Mazatlan I could mention stores like Indio shop, Mr Indio, Michaels Gallery and others.

I hope this helps!
