Nice QIET beach on Costa Maya?

I think we'll pass on the beach party scene when the ship docks at Costa Maya (RCCL Explorer, week before Christmas). We're looking for a nice beach with good snorkeling and facilities (bathroom, food), not far from the town of Mahahual. Anyone been to a small resort in the area welcomes cruisers? I found one - Maya Palms - that charges $25 for a "day pass" for use of beach, pool and restrooms. Anyone done it? Are the beach and snorkeling good? How about places right in town... any that aren't mob scenes on cruise ship days?

We used the beach a Majahual and it was very nice. The other beach club I've seen people mention where they had a good time is the Tequlia Beach Club. We went to Uvero Beach and weren't impressed. The beach itself was very nice but the bottom was mostly seagrass. If you stay right in the port it will be very crowded.

For in-town, it looks like Pez Quadro gets good reviews (on the other cruise forum). It's at the far southern end of town, away from the cruise ship dock. Farther still (2 - 3 miles from the center of Mahahual) are a string of very small, low-key hotels.
