Default Cozumel Shore Excursions????

I'm a first-time cruiser due to leave for Cozumel March 29 on the Fantasy. Does anyone have any information about Cozumel Shore Excursions and the All-Inclusive Resort Day Pass or should I stick to booking through Carnival?

Forget all that and take the ship's excursion to Tulum. The Mayan ruins are fascinating, as they reflect a very advanced civilization. It's well worth the price!

BTW, be sure to bring a liter bottle of water from the ship and drink from it frequently to prevent dehydration while you are touring the ruins.

Hi, while in Cozumel, the Mayan ruins of Tulum are certainly a great choice and a MUST SEE.
For relaxation or a all inclusive hotel package, just look up on the interet which hotels do offer one day all inclusive beach package (such as the Cozumeleno, Allegro, etc), there are no real offers on the interent through agencies or through the ship, just walk in and buy your package. Other options are beach break packages which are available (also online thgough agencies) at many premier beach clubs....food, beer, sand, activities and much more..Cozumel is great for beaching and swimming.

Tulum is an amazing sight and is an excellent choice. I also went on an excursion to Playa Mia, which was really nice. The beach was a beautiful white sandy beach and there was a large inflatable iceberg that you could climb. Our excursion included a meal, which wasnt too bad, wasn't the best, but we still thoroughly enjoyed the beach. Also, there is a hotel called La Cieba, which is only a short taxi ride from the dock. You pay a fee to get into the hotel and you are able to use all of their facilities. If you like snorkeling, this is a great place, but the beach is full of tons of rocks. Hope some of this helps!

This is the Tulum tour:
Leave Cozumel by ferry to Playa del Carmen mainland: 30-45min.
Walk from pier together with guide to parking lot: 10-15 min.
Drive to rest stop: 40 min.
Rest stop for toilet and souvenir purchase: 20-30 min.
Continue drive to Tulum: 10 min.
Arrive at Tulum parking and walk to ruin entry: 15 min. (or 3 min if tram is taken).
Visit Ruins: 1h 45 min. to 2hrs.
Drive back to Playa del Carmen: 50 min
Walk to pier: 5 min.
Take tender back to ship or downtown pier: 30-45min.

Times vary from cruise line to cruise line and RCCL brings guests back to downtown pier for additional shopping. These guests must take a taxi back to the ship at their own cost.

Price for the tram at Tulum is $3.00 p/p. Also there is a cost for video cameras (not for foto cameras) of approx $8.00 - $10.00. Ruins are roped off, there is no climbing allowed. There is access to beach area and swimming possible. Make sure to bring water and sun protection as well as steady walking shoes and some cash in case the guide gives his best.

Hope this info helps, good luck.

PS, the All Inclusive Hotel La Ceiba is just off the international cruise pier and a 3 min. walk from the Puerta Maya Pier, or a 5 min. taxi ride from the Punta Langosta Downtown pier...the tower on the waterfront..great SPA available !

How do you know which pier you suppose to dock at? Will it come in my ticket packet?

Thanks

My husband and I stopped in Cozumel on a Princess cruise. We booked a discover diving excursion through grandcaymancruiseexcursions.com. They do excursions with local guides at many ports. We had a great time. Our guide was terrific and we spent less than our friends who booked though Princess. The best part was that we were not hung up in the cattle call getting off the boat.

My husband and I are not "tour" people and we really enjoyed this opportunity to see Cozumel as part of a small group (there were only 6 people in our party including the instructor). We are taking another Princess cruise in March 2009 and we will be looking to local guides when booking our excursions. My advice is to shop around and when you find something interesting start hitting the various message boards for posts from people who have booked through that company before. Many people forget to post on their good experiences but you can sure bet they will post on the bad ones! Have a great trip.

The Fantasy normally docks at Punta Langosta downtown pier, however this can change sometimes without prior notice...good luck!

The first time my wife and I were in Cozumel we booked the Passion Island excursion (Isle de Passion) and it was great. First you take a bus..oops...luxury motor coach , then a boat ride to the island where you are served a huge lunch wich was very good, then hang out on the beach and relax or play volleyball.....the beach is beautiful and the have a good portion of it has palms and plants and what not. Very nice.

The second time our two sons (16 & 20) went with us so we booked the ATV tour wich was great fun. We went to a beach and a lighthouse and the guides were great.

We didn't do the Mayan ruins but we did see them in Costa Maya and they always prove to be fascinating.

Also we almost always book through the ship. It costs a little more but it's well organized and the ship can't leave if your tour is late!

You'll have a ton of fun whatever you do if you have a positive attitude.

Do the Cozumel Dune Buggy Tours. It was a great time when I went to Cozumel last. It's an all day long deal with a tour guide, your own car, you get to go around the island, you snorkel, sight see, show, they feed you lunch and you get all the beer you can drink.
Awesome tour. I booked trhough an agent but you can also e mail dunebuggytours@live.com

One more vote for Tulum!
Its a beautiful place and it's worth visiting even if you no longer can climb the temples.

Carnival sometimes charges a larger commission and it has been my experience taht booking through cruise ships almost guarantees that the excursion will be packed and crowded.
Going with independent companies is usually best, I highly recommend Cozumel Dune Buggy Tours - they go around the whole island and you get your own cars!

Sailing this weekend to Cozemel and looking at doing either the Catamaran Sail, Snorkel, and Beach Break tour or the Playa Mia Beach Break. Have 9 year old son and trying to decide which he would enjoy more.

How far is Taxi ride to Playa Mia and are the people there frendly? What are the free drinks availabe, and do they have good food/snacks?

Also, at the Catamaran beach break, what activities do they have at the beach?

Appreciate any helpful information.

Playa Mia is very commercial and has a lot of cruise passengers, we booked the all inclusive for us with cozumel-watersports.com at sanchos beach and the snorkel and kayak with lunch for our kids, it was just great, really friendly people, awesome food, full bar, superb beach with lots of space so we did not feel crowded at any moment, definitely recommendable!

We have some pics of Fantasy & Ecstasy at the link at the bottom of this post.

In the gallery are the flyers for the trips offered by the shore based vendors.

There are also a few maps of the pier area.

We have the Capers from our sailing in February if you would like to see them.

She is a great ship ! We loved the WaterWorks and the Serenity deck!

Something to think about...well, at least in our cabin (V18) they did not have the hooks on the wall to hang a towel so we used the 3M hooks we pack for just these times. Also, if you are prone to bring your hand/arm up to the headboard when you sleep - the light switch is on the headboard so you might accidently turn on the lights in the middle of the night!!

Our feeling is that the 9 y/o would have more fun at Playa Mia.

If you get the Deluxe pkg thru the ship, while it might be more costly than if you did it on your own, it is worth it for the peace of mind.

The Deluxe pkg via the ship includes transportation.

On your own the taxi is about $6 and about 10 minutes. If you go on your own the prices are broken down by what you get per level. Lowest (cheapest) is merely access to the site and a chair. Highest is all food/drink etc. It can get as high as $60 per person for the max.
The food is a basic fare of chips, salad, chopped chicken fajita like plate-serve your self buffet.

The restrooms are a slight walk back from the beach and appreciate a $ tip.

The alcoholic drinks are handed out 1 at a time per person if you go up to the bar huts. If your server comes to you at the beach chairs, just tip him/her a few and they can bring multiples.

They have volleyball and other games.

They have hammocks in the shade, too ! 8)

There are people that come around and hawk pictures with the lizard/bird and hair braiding.

Going into the water can be tricky. Sliperry rocks in places. Maybe wear water shoes. When we were there we saw alot of very tiny baby jelly fish.

We have a few pics of Playa Mia at
http://www.cruisemates.com/gallery/view.php?id=5057

Hope this helps.
