Has anyone ben there since the hurricaine? I am lookinf ofor pictures, and wondered what it is like now. Have a cruise in Feb 2008 that will stop there?

Hi there..Costa Maya is planned to re-open for cruise ships in October this year. They have been working a lot on re-building and improving and it surely is on a good way, taking into account that we took pictures from a private aircraft just a day ofter the hurricane (http://www.cozumel-watersports.com/H...nCostaMaya.htm) it looks a lot better now and surely will look great in February...good luck, Costa Maya is a little pearl that still has a great future!

Costa Maya is ready for cruises. Westerdam is the first one to arrive since after the hurricane. It will be there on October 31st.

The port hasn't been "officially" opened but one can expect the same as it was before.

On the other hand Mahahual was totally renewed. They now have a nice voulebard instead of that dirt road in front of the beach. What I probably liked the most is that it seems the street vendors will no longer be at the beach...

Everyone is looking forward to see how things will go when the cruises return...

Are the mayan ruins still ok?

I am sure that the ruins are okay, they've been there for almost two thousand years, can't imagine that a hurricane could do much damage:-)

Plus they are selling the tours so I would assume all is well.

Has anyone done either the wave runner tour or the ATV tours offered by http://costamayacruiseexcursions.com talk about a tough decision....any help would be appreciated!

I just came back last week (jan. 05) of a cruise to that area. You can see the dead trees on the way to the beach, but the beach area is fine with lots of places to eat from. We went to the ruins before the beach, and there didn't look like there was any damage there to the ruins or the trees etc.

They did a lot of upgrading at the port and also the village, it looks really nice and everything seems back to normal. Cant wait to return!
