Progresso Help...
can someone tell me how to get to the beach from the pier? I have not been to this port yet and just want to relax by a nice beach.

The pier here is extremely looong. There is a free shuttle from the duty free shops to the actual town. You will need to take it. The shuttle drops you off near a market with various goods. From the market it is a very short walk, (past street vendors) to the beach. At times, the water is nice, but at others it seems a bit dirty. the beach itself is alright and there are restaurants near or on the beach.
Remember that this is primarily a fishing village turned cruise port. It is not known for exotic beaches. You should enjoy it and I would feel safe with children there.I hope this did not seem gloomy, because it is nice it is just not the best beach on your cruise. You can also travel by cab, bus or rental car to Merida, which is a fascinating city near by.

Absolutely agree with reverendjeff, take the free shuttle and walk to the beach...there is also a beach club near the pier end I think Corona beach...otherwise there are not many beach clubs available as it is more a fishing village and weekend/vacation spot for the richer families of Merida. Also there are nice ruins to visit such as Dzibilichaltun, Uxmal, Chichen, etc..good luck!

I agree with cozumecrusing, not the best beach or stop in Mexico for the tourist trade. But I do think it is an insight of the REAL Mexico. We grabbed a taxi & went to see the Temple of the Dolls. Well worth it. Very intresting. Then on to Merida. The catherdral is wonderful & the city os a wonderful contrast of old & new. Well worth the trip.
