Resturant recomendation for dinner in PV off the cruise ship
Anyone have good reviews of where to go for a nice dining experience. Looking for good food...doesn't have to be five star. Looking for great location with view.

Our favorite with a great view over Puerto vallarta is Restaurant Barcelona.
All types of delicious tapas.
The restaurant is situated on a hill, great sunsets.
Another 2 right on Playa de los Muertos (Zona Romantica) are
Langustines and La Palapa. Of course also here great sunset.
THE best view in Vallarta by far is "Las Carmelitas." The down side is that it is way up the mountain and a strenuous drive for brave taxi drivers. (Not for the weak of heart)
They raise their own cattle and chickens. Sometimes the animals dine with you. (not the cows though) This "palapa" style restaurant is a real mexican experience. The waiters even give the women guests serapes to cover up with on a chilly evening.
The view is absolutely amazing. The food is pretty darn good. The ribs are often fabulous. The service is outstanding and there is even a small ruins there on the property.
Every time I go to Puerto Vallarta I have to eat at Las Carmelitas. However our other favorites are:
Seafood (great but not fancy).......................Polo's (Mariscos Polo) *
Seafood (Upscale)........................................L a Palapa
Mexican Faire (Upscale)............................... El Arrayan
Mexican Faire (moderate)............................. Los Arbolitos
Ask for the "locals" menu, it's cheaper but same food
Continental Cuisine......................................Cafe Des Artistes
Cuale View Restaurants................................Le Bistro or River Cafe
Cheap breakfasts........................................ . Casa de Hotcakes
French............................................ .............Back Alley Bistro
Mediterranian..................................... .......... Vitae and/or Trios
Ribs and/or Steamed Shrimp (Sports bar)........El Torrito *
We visit Vallarta often and have stayed several times for three to four weeks at a time. These are our faves. The starred ones are not touristy but excellent and very inexpensive.
I have never been to Puerto Vallarta, but this place seems to be very beautiful and romantic. I come from a Caribbean island, and I'm used to driving up long, steep, narrow, winding roads.
The drive is worth it. It is VERY romantic! They charge you about $10 at the bottom of the road to go up. But they give you a receipt to deduct from your restaurant bill. They just don't want lookyloos using their road which requires a lot of maintenance. I don't blame them.
