MSC Opera and MSC Lirica will return to Caribbean waters in 2005-2006 and the ships' new itineraries will include maiden port calls at La Romana and Cayo Levantado in the Dominican Republic. These ports are not typical for most lines' Caribbean cruise itineraries. Cayo Levantado is a small stretch of land off the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic in Samana Bay. It is known for white sand beaches, clear water, and natural rainforest vegetation, as well as humpbacked whale spotting. The port of La Romano on the eastern side of the island will offer guests access to beaches and water sports, an active artists' village, wildlife and flora reserves, horseback riding and several golf courses.
