Default MSC Lirica Southern Carribean April 18th 2007

My Husband and I are fairly new cruisers, we fell in love with cruising after our first cruise last spring, to the Bahamas on Royal Carribean. We are taking a a second cruise on MSC Lirica April 18th 2007 and have heard very bad and very good reviews but I am mostly confident we will have a blast. We expect MSC will be a welcomed different experience than the run of the mill cruise experience we would have on a Carnival ship. Anyone else taking this cruise,? We'd like to meet up with other members. Any tips on this ship or itinerary would also be much appreciated....I have been having fun reading other member reviews on MSC

We are also booked on this cruise. We have never sailed on MSC but are willing to give it a try. We booked the suite deal which for the money was a great offer.

We sail 4 or 5 times a year and Celebrity is our favorite but also enjoy NCL and RCL.

We have found that if you go with the right attitude you can have a good cruise under almost all circumstances.

I have also found a couple of others who will be on our cruise through a different website so at least there will be 8 of us who are posting.

I agree, we rarely complain and are open to trying new things so I expect to make the best out of it. I also took the suite deal, too good to pass up for the value..

The suite deal they were offering ended on 10/30 but just got an email saying it is reinstated until Nov. 30. We have a couple of friends who want to go but have to wait until January and find out about a possible surgery.

We were at a party last night where a couple who went with on the Baltic cruise in September were there and when we told them about the MSC cruise and the Suite Deal they couldn't pass it up. They booked today so now we are up to 4 going from here with the possibility of two more.

ShannonWPB, My husband and I took our first MSC cruise February 2006, we are going back on the Lirica on Dec 7, 2006. We LOVED it. Have been on Celebrity, also love that line, the big ships, Summit, etc. We have been on every major line but Carnival, and have no intentions on ever trying Carnival. But, MSC was GREAT. They made us feel like we were the only two people on the ship. The staff was a delight. The food was excellent, the entertainment, excellent, everything was perfect. Can't wait to return. It is more of a European mix of passengers then the usual cruise lines, but we found that to be a plus. I am sure you will enjoy your MSC experience.

Dear Shannon,
My husband and I will also be on the MSC Licra/April 18, as well. We are very seasoned cruisers, but our first MSC. I too have concerns, but in my post under yesterday under "Big Red" I said, how bad can it be I don't have to work, cook, clean, etc just being able to enjoy the wonderful beaches and ports for a great price! I am disappointed with the excursion as well and doing much of our own stuff since we have been to these ports many times. I am booking our own 5 hr.lunch catamaran/snorkeling excusion in Barbados with Tiami. We did this last year and it was wonderful. I just got a reply to my e-mail to make my reservation.
We live in Scottsdale, Arizona and are transplanted New Yorkers, but have friends in Florida as well. We love Florida, I'm staying on for an extra week after the cruise. I would be happy to provide any answers to your questions or help you may need. Just let me know.

Thanks for checking in everyone. I think it's going to be a great trip. What is anyone planning on doing for excursions in the ports.. We booked a private tour in Grenada apart from the cruiseline. May book a cruiseline excursion in St. Lucia but not sure yet. Anyone have any good suggestions for private tour guides in St. Lucia?

Shannon - Have you decided yet if you are going to join us in St. Lucia?

I started pulling things out for the cruise so guess I have now officially started packing. Will have to check a few more things, do some laundry and then take some clothes to the cleaner for pressing. I will try to have everything all done and suitcases locked by next weekend.

Jerry,
Yes we'd like to join you on the tour of St. Lucia- I posted a reply on cruise critics msg board.. I haven't even begun packing yet but should probably start.. You don't find that things get wrinkled if you pack them up a week before? I guess if you pack carefully they probably don't wrinkle.. I'm going to try to sneak on a little travel iron for some of my linen things that tend to wrinkle while in the suitcase.. Just a few weeks away and I'm really looking forward to vacation

When we were in St Lucia we just went outside the terminal and there were buses that would take groups of about 4 to 10 for tours of the island. Our bus had 5 and we had a great time. Did the same thing at Tortola (bus held about 20). Both times we ended up having a better tour/time than those on ship tours.

The tour guides are licenses/approved by St Lucia. They have to be in order to get in the gate to the dock. So you don't have to worry about being ripped off.

Prices were 35 to 40 pp for 4 to 5 hrs. And we even had time after to do some shopping.

Enjoy your cruise on the Lirica. Over all we enjoyed ours in Dec 2006. I did post a review here if you want to read it.

Only one week to go before we fly off for Fort Lauderdale. Our documents will be arriving today so I am curious to see how they compare to the other cruise lines' documents.

I will let you know if I find anything interesting in the packet.

We received our documents today and they are a little different from the other cruise lines' but contain about the same information. At least they came in a nice navy pouch.

What time does everyone plan on being at the pier for check in? The documents state that embarkation begins at 1PM but of course that is the general time.

Anyone else going to be at the Sleep Inn the night before the cruise? We will be getting in there around 5PM.

Jerry

All things considered it was a good cruise. We had the balcony suite which did not include any amenities but the cabin was spacious and well laid out. Our cabin steward was very nice and did a good job.

The entertainment was good, especially two of the singers, but hearing the cruise director announce everything in 4 or 5 languages got a little old after a while.

Dining room food was OK and very plentiful. Beef was not cooked to my liking but I survived. Our waiter and assistant waiter gave us excellent service. The dining room was a lot better for lunch than the buffet. The food on the buffet was probably the worst of any cruise I have been on.

The casino was small and poorly set up. Machine choice was lacking.

Tho shops onboard were also very small and not much of a selection.

Even though it may sound that the cruise wasn't that great but in reality, we did enjoy it. We were with people we liked and almost everyone on the ship treated us nicely and were very accomodating so that made things seem probably better than they were. I will have to say that they kept the ship very clean and we did like the atmosphere of the ship.
