MSC Orders New Ships "Unlike Anything That Exists Today"

MSC isn't backing down from it's quest to be a major worldwide cruise line. They ordered two new ships today, with an option for a third. The design in the prototype image they released looks interesting.http://www.cruisemates.com/forum/mem...-prototype.jpg

It's really a great looking ship, and I hope it does well. I think I actually only know one person who has sailed this line.

Will the day ever come, when the cruise industry says, we have enough ships? Over saturation ever come up in anybodys mind?

I think that the we are already saturated with ships. The number of cruisers is not increasing as fast as the number of ships.

Australia is still a rapidly growing market as are Germany & Southern European states bordering the Mediterranean, and they haven't even start to scrape the surface of the Middle East nations or China.
I can't speak for South America or Africa, but personally feel there are huge markets out there still waiting to be tapped.

But then I could be wrong.

Good point Alan....

South America, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, they are all on the sights of many cruise lines.

It is no mistake that MSC mentioned South America in their press release about these new ships.

Hmmmm maybe it's time to look at the MSC share price $o)

Oh & to get us back to the original thread, yes the certainly look like a welcome change to the standard design patterns.

They are also borrowing the 'waterfront' concept from NCL's Breakaway and Getaway with this new design, having shops and bars on the open promenade.
