Default Halifax question

Looking at the excursion info I was interested in the tour of Peggy's Cove Fishing Village. Is this worth taking or is this a place that one could either take a cab to from the pier or get a private tour from a local company? Anybody have experience with Halifax that they would like to share?
Thanks for any help.

Hi.. As in my previos post I said that I'm renting a FULL SIZE car for $34 US. The ship wants like $90pp to see Peggy Cove and lunch. I think I could get a real nice lunch for the differance in cost and we have a party of 4 so even better. I was in Halifax on Seranade of the Seas last year at this time but on crutches so we stayed close and did a hop off hop on tour in the city. Hope this helps.

Took RC excursion last year to Peggys Cove and loved it (not lunch just tour). The bus ride there was very comfortable and clean. Our guide talked almost the entire ride over and back and was very informative. There is so much history and interesting areas in Halifax. A well informed tour guide can make all the difference in the world. Loved that cruise so much leaving again tomorrow on Voyager to Halifax and St. John! JoAnn

JoAnn,
Sometimes the cruise line excursions are really a plus. Always depends on the guide and the group that you go with. We are still trying to decide on this one but thanks so much for your input.

If you can afford $90 for a round trip, cabs are available. I would recommend booking with a tour bus. We paid $45 apiece for a round trip to Peggy's Cove (no meal). The bus tour was very informative relaying mostly info on spots along the route. Peggy's Cove was quite beautiful and worth seeing. We only stayed for an hour with about an hour to travel each way but, longer tours are available (1 hour feels rushed to see everything). While walking down Lower Waterfront St. near the Pier in Halifax we saw a booth to book bus tours (near Maritime Museum) however, we booked our tour with the ship's excursion provider off the gangplank after departing the ship that morning (billed to our sale and sign card issued by ship). I'd bet there are cheaper ways to book. Halifax itself has alot to offer visiters. One day in port is definitely too short a time to really see the town. We especially enjoyed the fresh seafood resturants (not much fresh seafood around home). Hope this helps and have FUN!

We went to Peggy's Cove on a ship tour. We enjoyed it and definitely thought it was worth the effort. Very unusual and memorable.

It may have been 15 miles or so from Halifax. I'm sure it took 30 to 45 minutes to get there, maybe longer. I didn't talk to anyone who did it on their own.
