We are booked on the golden princess for 9/05 - out of the port of new york. Our return flight (frequent flyer miles - only one available) leaves from Laguardia at 12;20 pm. The ship is scheduled to dock at 7:20 am. Do we have enough time to get through customs and to the airport? Thank you!
May I relate our experience arriving NYC from a C/NE cruise Oct 1,2004. The Connie arrived at the pier about 8 am. With the color tag we were assigned we left the ship at 10:15. Then the fun began. We waited 50 minutes in the Taxi line. It was as organized as it could be under the circumstances. You are given a number as you exit the terminal, however you always have those people who jump the line and force their way into the first cab they can. After getting our cab it took almost an hour to get to LGA. We were now looking at about 12:15. Clearing security took about 15 minutes. Our flight to Detroit was 1:20 so it was close. The cab fare was almost $40. We noticed many people had arranged for a pickup service and the drivers were waiting as they exited the terminal. I am not sure if this is always the case but you can judge by our experience. With your earlier departure you will probably get an earlier debarkation number. You will probably make your flight but it could be close. I can see why Celebrity switched to New Jersey.
If you are pressed for time- start walking towards the center of the city- you only have to go a couple of blocks and there will be taxi's everywhere there. From the ports you are not too far from Times Square- we live 45 minutes from the city and go down there often- we always take the subway to Times Square and then walk to the piers to see the boats.
Are you docking on a weekday or on a weekend? Assuming that you get in on a weekend, I don't think you'll have a problem. It will take a couple of hours to disembark/find your luggage/get a cab, and I would allow about 40 minutes to get to LGA if it's the weekend, longer if it's a weekday. You may be cutting it a little close, but you should probably be ok. Check with the ship, because some cruise-ships have a special "early disembarkaction" for people who have to make quick connections. We were on the Miracle out of the Port of NY last year, and they let people with morning flights get through customs and off the ship first. They did the same thing on the Disney Magic.
