do it yourself excursions
My DH and I are on the victory june 22nd to halifax. We're leaning toward not booking any excursions just getting off the boat and walking aroiund. Is there a lot going on on the boardwalk as far as entertainment and shopping?

Halifax port in right in downtown area--with lots of tours on the dockside..I would suggest Duck tour-they are a lot of fun and you see the cty by land and water..You can book yourself once off the ship.

I live in Halifax; there are lots of pubs and shopping on the waterfront. Check out historic properties for tourist type of shopping, and Scotia square is very close too (A mall). If the cost isn't prohibitive though, I would suggest a tour to Peggy’s cove, very scenic, if you enjoy that kind of thing. For one of the best veiws of the city, take a trip up to citidal hill.

We are sailing on the Grandeur August 24th and I had sent for and recieved some wonderful tourist information on Halifax from their Visitors Bureau.

You might want to try that web site.

Having done this cruise just last October, I would recommend taking a tour because of all the history and information you get. We did the Peggy Cove's tour and since it is a long drive there, you get to see the countryside and hear about the area. The bus went up one way and back another so we got to see alot. Just my experience. We also still had plenty of time for shopping.
