Default Shore Excursions - Egypt

My wife and I will be cruising on the NCL Dream in October. Two of the ports of call are Alexandria and Cairo. One of the shore excursion options is an "Overnight to Luxor" (leave the ship in Alexandria, spend a night in Luxor and meet the ship in Cairo). This excursion is rather expensive ($625 pp double) but it sounds extremely interesting. Has anyone gone on this excursion before? What's your opinion?
Also, there is a minimum number of participants required for this particular excursion to operate. Anyone else going on the Dream on Oct. 15 who's planning on doing this? I'd hate to get my hopes up only to find out it's not going to happen!

My future wife and I are entertaining the idea but we still don't have all the details of the excursions yet. Can you shed some light exactly what the tour will include?

Eric

I too will be on the Dream Oct 15, but I didn't see that trip as an option. I'll look again.

Gogie, You will not have to worry about your land excursion in Egypt. Dream had cut our Israel and Egypt stops. We will probably be lucky if we lose sight of Athens. You can get the new itinerary on NRL website. Of course, we cannot get our money back at this late date. Wonder if they will have any shore excursions? From what I have read in these emails, NRL does not check out the land excursions operators so I wonder if will be safe to go ashore at any of the stops. As my travel agent at Vantage Travel told me when I inquired about getting my money back "You pay for the cruise and the stops are only added features."
