ncl just snapped up docking rights in hawaii for a second ship. word id ingalls shipyard will complete the hull to a certain extent that was being built for american classic voyages. it would then be towed to meyer-werft in germany for completion. this is a 1950 passenger ship, halfway finished. the berthing rights in hawaii take effect in sept. ,not sure if 03 or 04. thought you all might like to know!
Uncle Al, he's your pal!
According to things in the press the liner at Ingals is in default and the US govt has taken ownership, becuse they backed the financing of the now failed cruise line. It would have been nice for a US built ship to be done, but I hope the govt will sell the "shell" and let a cruise line finish her out at some yard. It seems crazy to let a new half built ship just to turn into scrap.
Knowing how our govt handels money....I expect the ship to be converted to military vessel (at a huge cost to tax payers) or just laid up rusting somewhere.
Star just issued $80 million in new stock for "NCL expansion". Sounds like they are ready to bid on the hull...transfer it to another yard (foreign of course) and it could be ready to sail in as little as 18 months.
