Default Scandinavia/Norwegian Dream

Will be traveling on Norwegian Dream Aug 2nd to scandinavia and Russia. Any thoughts on the Ship or ports of call. We like doing our own thing. Would appreciate any feedback on what people have done on their own!!! thanks, Ed.

We did this cruise in June/July of 2000. We loved the itinerary a lot. We were not crazy about the ship.

In Waramunde, Germany we rented a BMW for about $60 and had a great day of driving the Autobahn through Berlin, Hamburg and Weismar. It was a very fun day of very fast driving.

In Talinn we went into town on our own using a $10 taxi. We really loved Estonia and this is the place to do most of your shopping. There is great buys on textiles and chrystal.

We took tours in Russia because of the Visa issue and language concerns. They were all good. Hermitage is a must see, without question. Wear light clothing because it is very hot and crowded.

In Denmark we enjoyed Tivoli Gardens and the Harbor tour.

Helsinki was nothing special, but was a nice day. We went to a flea market and shopped a bit.

Stockholm was quite beautiful and very accessible from the ship.

Be sure and see Dover Castle.

Most of the cities had low-cost double decker bus tours that were quite inexpensive and usuallly quite good, Dover included.

I went on this cruise in July 2000 with my mother and son (his high school grad. gift). I've been on many cruises and this was my favorite ! We did the tours offered because I'm chicken to go on my own. I agree with the other post that the Hermitage is a must see. I would do this on my own so you can browse at your leisure rather than being hearded through like cattle. It was extreamly hot in the museum so wear cool clothing.

I loved the Dream and although we had a deluxe suite with balcony it was tight for three people. My son had a sofa bed and everynight it was made up early and blocked our entry to the balcony. We asked the cabin steward not to make the bed up but they said they had to do it. So we ended up folding it back up to go outside. Anyway, that is minor.

Have a wonderful time. That is one cruise I would repeat.

It was a bit rough sailing the Baltic Sea one night-take your motion sickness meds along!
