I was on recently (May) to Scandinavia. With so many alternatives, I strongly advise you to take another line to whereever you are going. This ship is run down and desperately needs refurbishing, and NCL did not handle our sailing well by any stretch of the imagination. Any port in Europe will give you wonderful opportunities to see many great things, but the ship is awful.

We have sailed on the Dream both before and after she was stretched and enjoyed both cruises. The staff was very good and the ship was very clean. The before cruise was from New City to Montreal and the after was the Baltic Sea cruise out of Dover going to Germany, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. The trip through the Kiel Canal in Denmark was remarkable because the locals would come out and waved at us from the shore (or is it banks) and they placed a large banner on one over the bridges that we passed under saying "Norwegian Dream We Love You". Plus the Dream like the Mississippi River stream boats lowers its smoke stacks to go under the bridges.

Here's a small sampling of some of the NCL bad customer service on our May sailing this year. My husband and I have been on 15 cruises with various cruise lines, and we give NCL and the Dream an "F-" for our Scandinavia sailing in May of this year. As I said on another board, great itinerary but AWFUL ship. The ship is badly in need of refurbishment, and I don't care what some smug know-it-alls say about not comparing it to new ships; when the ship is the armpit of the cruise industry, it needs to be refurbished, and it's been a long time for the Dream. That doesn't have anything to do with comparing a new ship to an old ship. There were plumbing problems--yes, you read that right, and you can't imagine how bad it was--on our sailing. Half of our deck had to listen to banging on pipes for 3 nights in a row while NCL attempted to fix the problem. There was also flooding on our floor, and several sets of passengers were moved to alternate cabins. We did not have hot water to shower on 2 mornings. A huge shop vac was set up in the hall in our area, and the other passengers began to call it the "slums" when everyone on the ship began to find out as they left the ship to go on shore excursions. On top of that, we were located over the employee disco; we are not light sleepers, but we were unable to sleep because the music was LOUD. Our cabin steward informed us that he had complaints on every sailing. (By the way, we don't have a problem with the crew having fun during the night--we just don't want to listen to it.) We asked for an alternate cabin from day one--after all, this was our 15th cruise, and we didn't just fall off the turnip truck--and NCL staff stated that there was no alternative. When we saw passengers leaving the ship early in Stockholm due to the poor sanitation conditions and verified with a waiter that the ship was 200+ passengers below full capacity, we advised the NCL staff that we knew that the ship was not full, despite their statements to us, we were directed to a cabin on DAY 7 of a 12-day cruise that had been available since DAY 1.

We were visiting with new friends in cabins in various categories (we were in a mid-level outside cabin), and we noticed that in all cabins, including one Owner's Suite cabin that we were in, the furniture is shabby and worn.

So anyone that thinks that they're saving a few $$ by booking NCL, I hope you will reconsider and value your precious vacation time above the few $$ that you might save. The attacks on NCL's reputation are well-earned; this is a bad cruise line, and the Dream is in desperate need of some attention.
