I am going on my first cruise ever. I will be going March 6th of 2004, we will be sailing on the WIND. I have heard so mixed reviews about NCL, can anybody tell me their good/bad experiences? I don't need and foot service, I just need a little fun and a beer tap that flows fast. I just want to relax with friends for 7 days and have a great time. I am a male that is 30, and is traveling with my wife and another 2 couples. I don't need a frat party just somwhere to hang and have a FUN time. Am I asking too much from this ship and from this cruise line? One couple that we will be cruising with is in their late 40's and they stated that the WIND was a great time on their last cruise.
Go over to the cruisecritic board, lots of reviews over there inclung some of mine. Be sure to check ports of call, we sailed her on 11/22/03 and I posted 11/30 to 1/08. Don't know what you are expecting, it was worth the $'s for us.
Happy sails to You!
We just returned from the Wind and the experience was excellent. I was nervous because of all the bad reviews but we had a very pleasant week, excellent service, food was great, loved the shows and casino and even the naps in late afternoon. It rained every day, unfortunately, but it did not dampen the mood. I hope you enjoy your trip. FYI--if this is your first cruise, I would recommend upgrading your room. We were originally booked in an inside stateroom because everyone kept telling us that we would never be in our room but upgraded to a superior oceanview. It was well worth the extra cost. We had a sitting room and had room service quite often and even had company to share a bottle of champagne.
We sailed the Dream (sister ship) 11/02. We were 56/60 at the time. We choose cruises based on a combo of price and itinerary. The Dream and Wind are somewhat older ships in today's market and some cruisers can be disappointed by the lower level of amentities/activities available. Cabins tend to be smaller and less well appointed. Some cruisers do not like freestyle dining, preferring to have the same staff & tablemates each nite. I thought this would be my attitude and was surprised to find I really enjoyed the freedom of freestyle and the option of meeting different pax for every dine room meal. Just because we had to tell the waiter at every meal hubby wanted ice tea and I drink water was not a problem for us, it happens every time we dine in any resturant. We did not find the level of service to be any less with auto-tipping from the pursars desk thru the dine room staff & room steward down to the deck bar waiters and this includes trips on newer Carnival ships and Celebrity. In fact, in many cases it was better. We especially enjoyed some differences in food options (no charge ones). The dine room breakfast offers a basic menu PLUS rotating specials that Celebrity and Carnival do not. The lunch deck BBQ on sea days is just that with giant weber type grills and had excellent choices. We always found something we wanted on the dinner menus and enjoyed our nite at Le Bistro.
I have booked the Dream again for 1/04 and am looking at the Wind for 12/04 for the entire family with our adult daughters and their partners.
