Just read a review of the Sea dated Nov.22. I am booked to go on Mar 13 but after reading this review I have second thoughts. Who has been on it later on in Nov or Dec holiday cruise and what do they think. Ken in Canada.
Ken, I havn't been on the Sea since 2000. But, we are booked to go on it again this June (same ports as in 2000). Although we have been on many cruises since the one in 2000 on the Sea (different lines, types of ships) I can tell you that the best time we have had is on the Sea. It has everything you need and we had a wonderful time. Roatan is worth the trip. Take this cruise and enjoy it.
Just a question: Do you know what Broadway show is being presented now on the Sea? We saw Grease, followed by the best '50's Night party we've ever been to, on our last cruise on the Sea. Booked for another cruise on her in Feb.
I just got back from sailing on the Norwegian Sea last week and I had a wonderful time. The ship is beautiful and the service and food were wonderful!!! The shows they featured were a tribute to the oscars as well as 50's/60's night. You'll have a great time! I just wish the Casino would have been nicer It was completely renovated in early 2003
Just got back from a week on the Sea last week. We had the time of our lives. I found that the people that were unhappy, seemed to make themselves that way. The biggest complaint I heard was that the rooms were small-people should have known this going in. The cruise is what you make of it.
The Sea was refurbished last January...we were on it on the infamousv cruise to Bermuda North last September.. The crew is absolutely incredible...and after crusing with RCI on the BOS I will never cruise them again and prefer for the moment NCL.. Yes, it's a smaller ship, but the crew goes overboard in their graciousness.. Unfortunately, they do not have the Jean Ryan Troupe anymore...and the shows were pretty lame except for a wonderful woman... I would sail the Sea in a heart beat.. I will though be booking the Majesty tomorrow back for he 10th time to Bermuda... As on all most all NCL the buffets are to be avoided...sad to say...but the barbecue by the pool with ribs and burgers is great. If anybody has questions about the Sea please don't hesitate to write.
Hi! I will be sailing with you on 3/13 and it will by fourth trip on the Sea. She is a wonderful little ship and I second all the rave reviews about the crew. You will have a lot of fun if you dont nit-pick and if you don't expect mega-ship facilities. There is a roll call on Cruise Critic for our sailing ("test-sea") if you'd like to meet some more of your fellow cruisers.
Boy the reviews of the ship are so diverse. I had looked forward to sailing on Mar 13 but some unexpected stuff came up for the Spring Break for us Canucks. Have taken the deposit money and put it towards another cruise in November on the Norwegian Star out of LA. Hope that one will be good. Ken
If my review might help please go to mickey-reviews.com and see all the photos of the ship plus reviews on our cruise and the Freestyle daily's are posted there.
I tried to include everything I wondered about before I left but didn't find the info!
So check it out and see if it will help answer some of your questions.
We had a great time, and so did the large group we met on the cruisecritic.com boards! We are all going to plan another trip soon on the Sea!
HI CC4! We will be sailing 3/13 on the Sea too. There are 3 of us - husband, me and our 23 yr old son. We are on Promenade 6220. I have had the same thoughts; however, the rooms on P. are "supposed" to be a little larger than others. I pointed out to NCL (when I booked the cruise) that there is no mention in the brochure that our room will accomodate a third person, they assured me that it will. Son gets the rollaway.
My wife and I and two friends tried the Sea (jan. 24-31) and were mostly impressed. No complaints. We were first timers so did not have anything to compare to but felt we got very good value for the money.
Have to thank all who post on this and other sit es. Gave some very good background info. For example, I learned that the Sea sails from a very industrial area. Rather drab. Not very exciting. Also learned that Sea is 15 yrs old and is starting to show its age (staterooms could use updating but the rest of the ship is topnotch). Thanks to the poster who recommended overnight stay at Best Western in La Porte. Nice place, inexpensive, very close to terminal. Also picked up very good info on parking, embarkation times, etc. Many other good tips.
From these and other posts, we had a pretty good idea of what to expect. So were not surprised or disappointed in anything. Were pleasantly surprised by the dining options, the food! and the great crew. Wonderful people.
I think that's the key for the first timers. Do lots of research (web and elsewhere), take it all with a grain or two of salt and go for it. Go with an open mind.
We would definitely cruise again. My wife says in five years but I'm hoping one or two. Would also choose the Sea again.
Only thing I would change is our pre and post cruise transportation. We drove from central Canada and gave ourselves too much time with the result that we spent more on hotels and meals than we needed to. So that made the whole holiday cost more expensive than necessary. But we left early because of weather concerns. If we cruise again (and I'm sure we will) would choose March or April. Less concern about driving weather plus warmer temps on the cruise (but hey, the end of Jan wasn't bad - from 20 to 25 C. compared with the -40 to -50 C. we left at home).
Just returned from our trip on the Sea. We sailed 2-7-04. I thought she was great, no problems with the crew, and the food satisfied even a picky 14 year old and very picky 7 & 5 year olds. Poolside BBQ was EXCELLENT! Kids Crew Staff was TOP of the line! GREAT personalities and the kids LOVED them! The rooms are small, we were in 3055 and 3056, however one of my daughters friends was in 6245 and their stateroom was only about 2 foot wider than ours and the same length...however since the only time we were even in the room was to sleep or shower and dress, it's NOT a big deal! Even with the 5 of us we didn't feel cramped up, and the kids loved the pull down bunk in their room. I'm looking forward to our next trip on the Sea!
It has been several years since we sailed her, but it was one of our best cruises. The ship is not Glitzy and is smaller than the newer mega ships. Actually that suits us just fine. Small staterooms, yes, they are. I think 4 may feel at bit cramped, but just plan to spend more time in the public areas. Mostly the negative reviews have come from those used to the newer ships and this is understandable. Like everything else, what you get will depend on your attitude. If you are expecting total elegance, NO WAY, if you want to have a great time with a wonderful crew you should love every minute of your cruise.
We will be sailing on June 5. Our 2nd time on this ship. Had a wonderful time in 2000, expect to have the same this time. We have sailed on larger ships, ships which offer more - have never had a better time than on the Sea.
Did you take any small children? I am taking 2 yr old and 6 yr old (both VERY outgoing and easy to adjust to new faces) and am curious as to what to expect from kids club program. Any info would be very much appreciated.
Michelle; The Kids Crew Staff on the Sea is AWESOME, my 5 & 7 year olds never wanted to leave! They had so much fun, and it gave my husband and I time too. Their last night, when we went to pick them up after the "pajama party", the kids asked if I would take a pic of them with the counselors so they would have one. At kids crew sign in the kids were given a choice of a regular backpack, which my son took, and a big stuffed cat backpack, which my daughter took. The kids are issued ID bands with all info on them, and they are well looked after and they have tons of fun. Mine are easily "bored", but they weren't bored there? Within 30 minutes of picking them up, they were asking how much longer before they could go back, we dropped them off at 9am, picked up at noon, took back at 2pm picked up at 5 and back to kids crew from 7pm to 10pm. The kids got upset with us if we were late taking them because they might miss something. Anyway, that was one of the best things about our cruise.
MarieD: Thank you so much for the info. The kids program is the reason I decided on a cruise for our vacation this year. We did Disney last year and I felt like it was more work and less relaxing than staying at home. I, too, hope to have some time to myself on this vacation. As a single mom, I cherish a shower alone!! I would miss them too much to leave them at home, but I want them to have fun too! I hope mine like it as well as yours did. Glad you and your family had a good time and again, thanks for the info. I'm getting more excited by the day.
Michelle- Hope you have a great time! In the evenings, give the Stardust lounge a shot, they have some pretty funny acts going on!
Have you cruised before? This was our 1st. and I already have #2 booked (the Sea again), We bought the kidscrew backpack thing that has unlimited drink refills for the kids, it was worth it. Other wise, pop can add up real quick, ($1.73 each) and I bought the adult unlimited drink card since i'm a pepsi-aholic-, so it's worth it. I hope your kids have fun, I think they will, your 6 year old should have a counselor named Cara- she's really great! Best thing we've ever done as far as vacations! No worries, had great family time and great couple-only time, and I could relax because I knew without a doubt the kids were okay and having fun.
I noticed on our cruise that they had a lot of singles activities going on, so that might be fun!
Well- Hope you enjoy it! Our "rug rats" can't wait to go again. Post when you return and let us know how things went! Marie
Just wanted some info about the sea......what are the best shore excursions and the prices of them? Going with my husband, a 21, 22, and 25 year old. What is the average age of people on the ship and will my kids have a lot of fun on this cruise? How much is parking and alcoholic beverages? Any tips will help...planning to go Aug. 14th. Thanks!
