My wife and I will be flying into Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, and we have no idea how far it is to the port for Norweigan Sea. We also would like to find a method of transportation which is most affordable. Shuttle? Bus? Taxi? If you have any idea, and approximate cost, please post a message, and contact if possible. Thank you. (we will be going on the April 10th date)
There have been a few discussions on this issue at the Cruisecritic.com forum lately. There are a few options:
1. The port is about 60 miles from IAH and a cab will run you approximately $75 one way.
2. NCL does have a bus from IAH that I think is $40 per person round trip, must contact NCL to arrange at least a month in advance. This often involves a wait at the airport until the bus is filled...but they do transport your luggage from the bus to the ship.
3. There are local shuttles services and limo services that you can contact. Prices vary depending on who you call and what times/dates. You can do a search on the internet to get the phone numbers for the Houston area.
4. You can get a rental car from IAH but the nearest place to return it is several miles from the pier and you would need a cab from the rental agency. Also 1 way rentals are much more expensive.
Personally we are flying in a day early and staying near IAH for the night. I called Extreme Ellegance Limo service and will have a stretch limo pick us up in the morning. Cost for the stretch was $95 one way. They did have town cars for $75 but with 4 of us the stretch seemed more appropriate.
Thank you, Sea of Dreams, for all of that great information. You were right on, with all the prices and methods of transfers. We decided to go with the $40 transfer by bus (both ways), which is straight from the airport to the port. If we had the extra money, the stretch limo sure sounds like a great idea. Thank you for your help. When are you going on your cruise?
We are going on the SEA on 4/17......wave to us as your getting off the ship. Have you booked any excursions yet?
We are doing Paradise beach in Cozumel. Short cab ride, free admission and usage of chairs, floats, snorkel equipment, kayaks and restrooms. They also have a water trampoline and iceburg float to climb.
We are doing the X-treme cave tubing in Belize.
In Roatan we are doing the jungle canopy zip lines, where you glide on wires over the tree tops to 12 different platforms.
In Cancun we are just going to relax and shop.
The NCL shore excursions are rather over priced so we always tend to book our own on the internet or at the pier when we get off the ship. So far we have never had any problems. Also take advantage of reviews of past cruisers on the boards here at Cruisemates (look under destinations) or cruisecritic ( under ports of call).
Check out mickey-reviews.com for copies of all the freestyle dailys to see the ship board activities and photos from her cruise.
Houston Van Services. (Houston Van Service Houston Limos & Town Car Houston Airport Transportation Houston Toll Free (866) 301-4715 is the way we are going. For the 4 of us it will cost $75.00 and they will include a tour of Houston if we want to kill time, for no extra charge. We are also going to stop to eat breakfast and shop. Still only $75.00 (plus the price of breakfast, of course). Since there are 4 of us, it is cheaper than the NCL transfer.
We just cancelled our Houston Van Services because we found a great deal. Enterprise car rental in Seabrook has a new NCL cruise rate. You should be able to get a car (intermediate) for $49.99 plus tax, that includes the drop off fee. You can get it from the airport then when you take it to the Seabrook Enterprise (by 11:30 am) they will give you a ride to the pier.
The enterprise office is in Seabrook, TX.....about 10 - 15 minutes from the pier. We called and got the discounted rate, and they will be picking up my husband from the pier when we get off the ship and he will go back to their office to do the paperwork and pick up the car.
The phone number is (281) 474-4466.....ask for the NCL cruise rate.
