Thank you to everyone who replied to my 1st message. I appreciate all the useful info.
We have not booked yet, but considered the Sea out of Houston because of price and also liked the 4 stops. My best friend and I are traveling together, we're females in our forties, who like fun in sun, night life, and a wide variety of other activities. If you have any suggestions or tips for us as far as ship, places to go, etc., please respond.
We picked Houston and the Sea for both convenience (drove down from Canada) and price.
Port of Houston very easy to get (not very pretty but who cares?) and convenient parking right next to terminal. Check in, boarding quick and painless.
We didn't sign up for any excursions. Made our own arrangements and worked out very well.
We (two couples in late 40s and early 50s) thought Cozumel was very nice. Lots of modern shops right at the end of the pier and plenty of older ones (with lots more character) along the main drag. We spent our afternoon at Playa del Sol - a short cab ride down the coast.
Cost us $10 each to use beach amenities. Food, etc. extra. Higher prices included food, drinks. Nice place but found plenty of surf the day we were there so not lots of fun in the water.
Roatan - we took some advice and went to Half Moon Bay. OK if you're into snorkelling but not really great for lazing on beach. Not bad but virtually no amenities where we were. Cab ride in an AC van was very nice. $40. Only pay when driver comes back for you. I gave him $5 when he dropped us off just to make sure he would come back and also so he knew he would get more of tip when he dropped us off at the ship. He was back exactly when we told him and took us on a different route back to ship. Very scenic but also went through some very poor areas.
Later found that Tabyana (sp?) Beach might have been a better choice for the day. Oh, well.
My wife and friend went ashore in Belize to wander through the shops. Not overly impressed.
We tendered ashore in Cancun. Much faster and more convenient than a lot of posts led me to expect. Drops you off right on the beach so you can laze there or wander through some shops or try out adjacent restaurant/bar. Beach very nice - powdery sand, no surf, great for wandering in, splashing about.
On board, evening entertainment ok - music, comedy, karaoke, etc. Have never been to Vegas but am certain Vegas entertainment would be considerably better. But it's free.
Oscar's piano lounge very nice. Casino ok but smoky.
La Bistro very nice, excellent food and service. Try it! Two restaurants on Deck 4 also very good, good service, etc.
Sorry can't offer any advice on anything else ashore.
Disembarkation on Sat. a.m. very easy, quick if you opt for Express. But you do have to carry all luggage when you get off. No returning for anything.
Hope this helps. Sorry for rambling.
Here I go again.
Forgot to mention: my wife and I did a seven day low cost all inclusive in Cancun last March.
Comparing with cruise: both agree cruise probably better. But definitely want to do a more upscale all inclusive again. So much to do, so little money. Sigh!
Belize City: Take a tour, do not wonder around, especialy do not ctross bridge into main part of city, not toursit friendly.
Cancun....quiet bech oriented
Roatan: New destination, very poor island but improving services and economy helping the people. Tabayana beach is a wonderful day with very close in snorkeling..Roatan is considered probably the third best snorkel & scuba locale in the world.
Cozumel: you have got to spend some time in Carlos N Charlies..people do things there they DO NOT do at home
