Dawn Embarkation Time

I'm going on the Dawn in a few weeks... and I noticed they say the ship sails from NYC at 5pm, and to be there 30 minutes ahead. However, it doesn't say how EARLY you can get there.

At what time can I arrive? What is the check-in and embarkation procedure? Is there a peak period to avoid?

If you want to spend the day looking around the ship and have lunch.
You should get there early, We got there at 11am and they started to let people on by 12noon. we had our picture taken (as you get on) and we were in the venetian having lunch by 12:30. Why not start your vacation early

I'm going in a few weeks also, and I was planning on getting there early, but what happens if the ship is late, is there anyplace to eat at the pier. I have 3 kids and I know they aren't going to like waiting around. : )

The NYC Pier has few ammenities. You could bring and sandwich from home. The chances are that you will be able to board by Noon.

In the area that you wait to get on the ship, there is a small snack shop
They sell hotdogs ,soda things like that,
Also in the area that they check your tickets they had a table set up with drinks and juice

Also have the kids bring things like game boys ,cd player with head phones
Stuff like that , There will be other kids in the waiting area, I bet They will make new friends fast.

Our ship was late by about 5 hours and they had cookies, water, soda, small finger sandwiches and brownies at the pier.

We always arrive early.If you are not from the area ,you can take a QUICK run up to midtown and see a few sites.But if you get there a half hour befor sailing you are cutting it very CLOSE ,Esp with the traffic around the pier area.I* dont no how many ships will be there but when you have two or more it is like a zoo getting to your ship.

Can You drop your luggage off and then walk around the city?

Boubie, Like dan p said the traffic is like a zoo
It would be like trying to walk out of jfk airport( very busy)

Yes, they can take your luggage for you and you can go walk around the city. You are about 15-20 minute walk to Times Square. You can also jump in a cab and tell them to take you to TS (it will be about $3-4). But I would HIGHLY recommend you are back at the pier by 3 pm at the very latest. Have fun!

I just came back and we got to the pier around 11:30. It was a zoo.....people coming off, people trying to get on, etc. Literally thousands of people walking around. When we left the ship, they didn't call us to disembark until 11:00! If I went again, I would show up around 2:00 and stroll right on! (we had to wait in the holding area to board until everyone left and they cleaned the rooms) Not easy with my 3 kids either! Have fun!
