We are on dawn and want to get a cab from the ship in miami to take us to south beach. there are six of us. Is it easy getting a cab. We don't need to rush out and be the first people off the ship. But it seems with so many people on ship it will be hard to get a cab. what does anyone know about this. I don't think we should have to drop the $18 for each of us on the excursion that takes us by bus.
We had our 4 kids with us on the 3/14 sailing of the DAWN. We took our time leaving the ship and when we walked out of the terminal there were taxi vans waiting. We asked for a nice beach in South Beach and he drove us along Ocean Drive and I believe we got out around 8th or 9th street. The beach was BEAUTIFUL!!!! Sue 8^)
Wow, just take the BUS! its about 20 -30 mins by bus..and its like.. 50 cents or something. THere is a MIAMI BEACH bus that goes right there basically. Although, you might need to take a cab out of the ship terminal. But the bus is so cheap, so easy to catch... just ask the driver. But if you dont 'mind shelling out the money- a cab obviously is always more convienent.
We were just on a cruise on the Dream and spent the night in Miami at "The Palms" in South Beach. NCL set up the hotel and gave us a free night. We were very impressed by this hotel. Anyway, We had a limo (van) transfer to the hotel and used the public bus twice while we were there.
The buses run very frequently and they cost $1.25 per person.
Cabs are approx. $1.70 for the first 1/11th of a mile and $.15 for every additional 1/11th of a mile according to the placards on the side of the cabs.
From the cruise terminal you should be able to catch the "S" bus which goes to South Beach. There is another route that returns to the cruise terminal.
We found the buses to be very quick, cheap and clean.
