Hi, i am leaving on the dawn tomorrow and am getting very nervous. Basically I am scared about the possibilities of a terrorist attack on the ship. Can anyone please tell me how tight security is at the NY pier. Do they have metal detectors and police dogs to sniff for bombs. Do they search through lugguge or suspicious looking peopel,? I know this might sound silly, but after 9/11 i decided to NEVER fly again which is why i choose a cruise out of NY. But, i am still getting stressed about it. Any information would be great.

When I was on the Dawn they did a great job, They had the best security I ever saw on a cruise. There were dogs when you got on the ship. The U.S. Coast Guards were on board before we sailed out, plus they were on the sides of the ship as we left the harbour.They had great security at every port. I thanked them every time we were checked. You will be just fine Have a great trip!
Don't stress there there is plenty of security. You cannot get on the ship without your key card which has your picture embedded into it. No one unauthorized can get on the ship and when the ship leaves it is escorted out of the harbor by the coast guard. Not to worry, I have cruised three times since 9/11. Live your life and have a wonderful cruise. we went on 4/26 weather wasn;t to hot, but a cruise is a cruise you will love it.
I worry about that too but i can say that the Dawn has great security in NYC and exiting and entering the harbor. What I do worry about is being out in International waters. But I try to tell myself that I can't live my life being worried about everything. In the big scheme of things, cruise ships are probably not at the top of a terrorists list (at least that what I would think).
