I just sailed (got back last Monday) and it was $15 per person - $20 if you wanted the surf & turf -- YES, well worth every penny. You must do it once for a truly amazing meal

Did you tip the wait staff on top of the service charge? I know this is a controversial situation.

Parrot mom - wish I had noticed that earlier And yes, we were so happy with the wait staff who went above and beyond their duty that we tipped generously. These people work so hard and they send much of their wages back to family (we were told this by many of the crew).

There is a "dirty little secret" in the cruise industry... a survey of crews (taken in St. Thomas) and it seems that most people you see up front get really paid well and send $$ home to their families and build homes and restaurants..it's the people you don't see...the ones in the kitchen, the people in the laundy, and in the engine room who make little $$..We tip the usual and then if the service as you mentioned is extraordinary there is an extra envelope or $$ at the alternative restaurant which is usual.. The people work long hard hours and many are on at least 6 month contracts or even longer and barely get to see their families.. Please don't all yell at me about this comment...stop and figure it out.. In talking to a waiter that we have had many times he has said that until the new system they would get "stiffed" on the last evening..and the interesting thing is he said the worse were honeymooners.

I never went to El Bistro. The food In the regular dining room was excellent. Some people on the Majesty who went to that dining room said it was no better than the main dining.
