My wonderful husband surprised me with a trip on the Alaskan Cruise for our 30th Anniversay in Aug. My question is about smoking. I have allergies to cigarette smoke and was wondering if there are designated areas for smoking and if there is smoking in the restaurants.
I'm so excited about this trip and can't wait!
We just got back on 6/13. If I remember correctly, it's ok to smoke on one side of the ship on the outside decks (i.e. in the open air buffet), and not on the other. For instance, at the outdoor buffet, on the aft of the ship, the tables were marked with no smoking signs on one side of the ship, and the others had ashtrays available. I don't think there was any smoking allowed in the indoor restaurants. In the lounges and bars, the Stardust lounge (where the big shows are held) is smoke free, and I think smoking is allowed in the others.
I am also sensitive to smoke, and the only place I noticed it was at the casino. It was extremely smokey. You can by-pass the casino by a hallway, but it was smelly too.
ute fan is correct. There is smoking on one side of the outdoor buffet, but not the other, no smoking in the restaurants or showroom and some other public areas. You will see smokers around the pool, but this is the case on all lines. Carnival tried a non smoking ship and has done away with it. The casino is the place where you will find the most smoke. If you handle the situation with a little discretion I think most smokers will be glad to move the ashtrays away from you. There are no ships where you will find a total smoke free situration. Good luck.
No smoking in the restaurants. When we were on her in late April, the port side in the public spaces was for smokers. We generally avoided the port side and the casino like the plague! Elsewhere you won't even notice it.
Hi CMO - glad to see that you are still posting - Carolannmc - on the Sun - the windjammer bar was bad as they have a cigar lounge ajacent to it - as a non-smoker the only place that i noticed it was in the casino and only if i stood around the tables - just walking through wasn't a problem - which ship/port are you on
Hi, Dennis! Yup, still posting. You didn't actually think I'd have given up my new Board habit, did you? Haven't seen anyone but you posting, though. We are already booked for next summer's Star repositioning cruise (7 days this time) LA to Vancouver and for a winter getaway, the RCI Monarch of the Seas (4 days). If NCL had a similar short cruise on the West Coast, we would have done it. We loved Freestyle!
