Default VIP list?

I've read a lot of posts where people suggest asking to be put on the VIP list. What's the deal with this. Is it something you can just ask for? Does it cost extra? What does it get you? Also, people mention getting preferential treatment by mentioning cruisemates or cruisecritc membership. How does that work?

I've been reading this boards non-stop and thank everyone so much for all I've been able to learn. It seems my overwhelming excitement about my first cruise is only sated by reading all that I can. But the treatment begets the disorder.

The only thing I know about is Latitudes. You automatically become a member when you go on your second cruise on Norwegian. You get stuff like going to the front of the check-in line, discounts at certain bars, and a free cocktail hour with the captain. I think there's more information on the Norwegian site.

How do you get on the VIP list?

The primary way book a suite. You will be invited to VIP reception, given priority boarding, and first shot at reservations and disembarkation. Others make the list by who they know.

I mee tseveral on my Alaska cruise that were at the VIP party and cruising for the 50th+ time on NCL. Another was onboard with a $1M line of credit in the casino.

There are other ways to be included on the VIP List.
If your travel agent has clout with the Cruise Line - and you are a big customer for that travel agent, they can arrrange to get your name on the list.
If you know someone at the cruise line, either in the home office or onboard the ships, they can contact the Hotel Director of your ship to have your name added.
The Captain and Hotel Director can add names to that list. If you manage to meet them - and somehow impress them, it can happen.

There was a Hotel Director at NCL who put many of us from these chat rooms on that special list, but he has left NCL.

Good Luck............

We have been on the list twice, 1st time on the Sun and the last on the Sea 2 weeks ago; what a wonderful way to cruise.
