WHY IS THE DAWN NOT GOING THERE ??????? THE PEOPLE AT NCL SAY THAT THEY SHOULD BE GOING , THAT NOTHING IS WRONG . IT IS NOW 2 WEEKS INA ROW AND THEY HAVE NOT GONE THERE. I AM GOING ON THE DAWN 3/20 , I HOPE THEY GO .
The Island is still closed. If you call the call center they will tell you what they know - it is open and on the itinerary. In fact it is not. Nobody can say for sure when it will open. They quote safety issues after two major storms totaled the island last year.
I had read that the big problem besides rebuilding the structures is they lost most of the beach sand. A day of families playing on exposed coral will keep the medical dept. very busy.
I love NCL but it is so hard to get a straight answer from Miami when there is a problem. Once onboard that fustration melts away.
In lieu of this port, does NCL stay at Nassau longer or add a different port? I called NCL just today to find out about this and was told they are stopping at the private island. But I've heard differently. I'd be interested in hearing what NCL has done on previous cruises.
Many people, including myself, love that island and I'm sure there is disappointment when its on your itinerary and you don't go there. Yes, plans change and you should make the best out of it but people have the right to be disappointed - I know I would be.
We were on the Dawn last week. We skipped Great Stirrup Cay on Thurs. Went to Nassau instead and stayed overnight until noon on Friday, then headed for NY. The week before they went to Nassau instead of the island, but went to Freeport Friday.
The captain said the delay is because the smaller boats that have to deliver supplies for the reapairs to the island haven't been able to get in because of the bad weather, but it should be open again soon.
