Port buildings open 24/7 ??

I'm going to be cruising on the NCL Dawn out of NYC and my plane will be arriving in the early morning of my departure date. I'll have plenty of time to get from the airport to the ship, but since I'll have several hours to waste I'm wondering if I will have to sit outside on a curb waiting for the doors to open. The ports are open 24 hours a day, aren't they? Is it safe for a woman traveling alone to just sit around the port for several hours or should I stay at the airport for awhile to pass time?

As a native New Yorker and having gone on a NCL cruise out of NYC, I would not kill any time at the port. Not a pretty place and not a place to relax and lounge till embarking. If you wanted, you could go on to the Intrepid ship on the next berth and look about as it is a museum.

The port where the Dawn leaves from is not like a airline terminal. There seem to be no stores, or eating places at all. Just how early are you getting into NYC? The Intrepid air and Space Museum opens at 10AM on Sundays thru Sept. Chances you will start the procedure to board as early as 11 AM. I Don't know what time you can hand over your bags and then go to the Museum.
