Default Booking Online

I intend to book a NCL trip online @ the NCL website, after asking an NCL rep via telephone about some document issues I was advised that it would be to my advantage to book directly with NCL via telephone. The reason explained was that a travel agency would take over the online booking(even thought I am @ the NCL website) and I would thereafter have to deal with the particular agency re; any changes, problems etc. and not be able to deal with NCL directly. Though my costs would remain the same, the agency would receive a commision on the booking. Any suggestions or words of wisdom?

i would book via the phone with NCL or better yet, why not a regular TA. Yes, in some cases, the internet agencies have better rates but you really don't have as good a relationship with them; if you even have an agent it isn't a personal contact, but more an order taker and if anything goes wrong you could be out money or at best very frustrated. I would try a large cruise specialist company if I were you. The exception: if you are a very experienced cruiser and know most of the rules and regulations. Just my humble opinion.

Once again, I agree with NMNita. (Makes me wish I lived in NM!)

I think a good TA is worth their weight in gold! Our TA is a cruise specialist and very "hands on". No matter what kind of silly questions I have she answers them very quickly. She's local, but after booking "face to face" I've E-mailed her several times with questions. She's gotten back to me the same day with answers!

A lot of online "TA's" are just order takers. Once you book and pay, they won't even return your calls!

It's true that you have to go through your TA instead of calling NCL with any questions or problems, but if you have a good TA you won't need to call NCL. A good TA will run interference for you!

The TA's commission has nothing to do with your price. It's paid by the cruise line and/or the company they work for.

Requests to book shore excursions via the web seem to go off in a black hole. Calling is not much better. I was trying to book an excursion package. The first person just booked a code close to what i was asking. Emails get no reply. I finally was able to talk to someone who vowed to get it right... Stay tuned
