Default NCL vs. Princess

We are thinking of doing a holiday cruise on the Norwegian Sun in December. I have only been on 3 previous cruises, all on Princess. (2 Grand Princess, 1 Carribean Princess). We absolutely loved these ships and the associated cruises, but thought it might be nice to try something different for our next cruise. Can anyone who has cruised both the Norwegian Sun and either of the Princess ships tell me how you think they compare take a best guess if you think we might be happy switching to the Sun. I would be going with my wife and 16 year old son.

Thanks for any info that you can give me on this, I really appreciate it!!

Just finished a cruise on the Sun last April ( Western Carribean) and my wife and I just loved every minute of it. The year before we were on the Princess Golden which is a sister ship of the Grand. My wife and I loved the Golden also. Comparing both I would say the Golden is a bigger ship with more pools and hot tubs, teenagers had their own pool where the Sun did not, and the Golden is more upscaled than the Sun. But; I still would sail the Sun if I found the right cruise I wanted. In short I would say your not really comparing apples to apples. They are both great ships to cruise on - just depends on what your tastes are and what your looking for.

Hope this helps....

I think you will see a significant difference in these two cruiselines and ships. Princess is more upscale and less festive or party atmosphere. It just depends on your taste or lifestyle.
Princess would get my vote over NCL, but I am a traditional style cruiser.

Princess is even more "less festive" than NCL? NCL has a "party atmosphere"?
We were so looking forward to the new Crown Princess as our first Princess cruise, but looks like staying home would be a better option.

Princess is inclined to be a little subdued. She is a very popular line and many rave about the food. Some do say the food isn't as good as it used to be. If you want to have a great, relaxed time with a friendly crew and laid back week try NCL. If the quiter atmosphere is more to your liking go with Princess. Every line has a nitch. NMNIta
