Me and my wife are going on our first cruise this year, on the Norwegian Jewel on the Western Caribbean cruise leaving Miami on December 11th.
I want to thank everyone who posts here for all the useful information, it really helped us pick this cruise as one that seemed like a good fit for us. My only 'cruising' experience prior to this is on the ships that run from Oslo to Kiel ,and Oslo to Cophenhagen.
Is there any thing we should know before we go on this cruise as first time cruisers? I am really looking forward to this ship from all I have read on it, and think we will have a great time. We booked a guarenteed catagory H outside stateroom for the sailing.
I hope this is the first in a long series of cruises in our lives, both with and without our kids. - This first one is without the kids.
I don't know where to start. If I had any complaints it might be the guar H catagory. We ended up on deck 4 in cabin 4006 I beleive. It was a bit noisy. we could hear the engines etc but we still loved every minute of the cruise. Just some thoughts and I will try to keep this short: be sure to try at least one specialty restaurant. DH preferred Cagney's, I always love Le Bistro. Mama's kitchen is worth the try and there is no extra charge. Make your reservations the day of embarkation for the best time selection and don't do alternative dining on Lobster night. Be sure and eat in the Blue Lagoon. The best fish and chips ever. DH says the same about the hamburgers and I loved the buffalo wings. We ate breakfast there one morning, lunch once, late night snack one night and actually had dinner there once. If we were doing a 7 night cruise I wouldn't bother with dinner there. We did not care for Tangos, very disappointed!!! If you like the casino life you will be happy with this one. It is about as large as any I have seen on a ship, complete with penny slots. Diane is one to the attendants and just about as sweet as they come. We preferred breakfast in the buffet over the dining room. Don't worry about formal optional nights. If you want to dress up, you will not be alone, but you will also see many in polo type shirts and cute sun dresses or capris. Well they won't be wearing polo shirts with the sun dresses I don't think. Be prepared for pricey drinks, NCL has now caught up with the rest of the cruise lines. Make sure if you only see one show it is the last ngiht of the Jean Ryan dancers. You will never forget it. Most of all go with the attitude "you will have a good time" and you will come home all smiles!!! NMNita
