Default Cruise virgin looking for advice

Myself, DW and DD will be cruising for the first time on the Sun leaving Miami on April 1st to Eastern & Western Caribbean. Being completely new to this we will be looking for advice on various parts of the cruising adventure. Some of my questions may sound silly or trivial but DW gets very uptight before going on any holiday.
Firstly, any advice on the ship itself would be appreciated, we have a balcony cabin on deck 8.
Is tea and coffee provided in the cabin and also are towels provided for the pool?
DD will be 6 yrs old, are the kids clubs and activities suitable and fun?
Reviews on food seem to be mixed, any suggestions on what's best.
What to wear, we are travelling from Scotland therefore it is a very long way to carry a lot of clothes. Do jackets have to be worn on formal nights; would trousers, shirt and tie be acceptable.
That will do for now, over the next few weeks I would be grateful for advice on the itinerary and excursions.
Many thanks.

Hi Tom,

Welcome to CM's! First there are NO silly or trivial questions here ! In our family I'm the "planner" with all the questions (like your DW) and DH just comes along!

We sailed on the NCL Sun last December. We were on Deck 9 in a balcony cabin. There was a coffee maker. We don't drink tea, but I think if you asked for tea bags they would bring you some.

We don't have children, but an online friend brought her 8 year old son and he LOVED the Kids Club! He wanted to go anytime it was open.
The club is located where you can watch the kids through indoor "portholes" which I thought was great for parents.

Since NCL is "Freestyle", trousers, shirt and tie would be fine for formal nights. There were two dining rooms and one of them was designated formal for that night, the other wasn't (similar menus), so if you don't want to dress up at all you don't have to! (Of course we all LOVE to see Scotsmen in kilts on formal night! )

We're not "pool people", but I'm sure there are towels available on the pool deck.

We found it very easy to get around on this ship. (Some ships have many "dead ends".)

Food is so subjective! We've found that all cruise food is too bland for our tastes, but others rave about it!

Ask as many questions as you want (or DW wants!) and have a great cruise,
