NCL Majesty 3/11/06
This will be the first cruise for me and my wife. We are both in our late twenties. Is there anyone who has cruised this itenerary out of Charleston around this time ? Is there anyone going on this particular cruise? I've read some very mixed reviews on this ship and this time frame. I'm just a normal guy, neither picky nor snobbish. Are there some real issues here with this boat or are some people just being a little overly expectant? I'm looking to have a blast and look forward to meeting some great new friends. I primarily picke3d this cruise due to the short drive and the price.

I was going to book the majesty for april 2006...I am a little concerned now that I have read some of the postings, especially from a cruiser that just returned Jan 7th.....I picked this one because I live a few hours driving from the port....hummm....little nervous

After researching a bit more, it appears that some of the worst of it is all dependant on how you view what should be minor problems. I'm a really easy-going guy, so unless the boat sinks or we get lost and have to resort to cannibalism, I'm going to be a generally happy man. Looking at related info on certain other people who have given amateur reviews, I've deduced that at least some of them love nothing more than to whine and complain. That isn't my cup of tea, so I'm no longer worried. I do believe that there will be a generally younger and more upbeat crowd around the spring break sailings and that there are always going to be minor problems, no matter what. I've resigned myself to just having a good time.

NCL Majesty
Hi everybody,

We were on the NCL Majesty 1/14/2006 to 1/21/2006 which departed Charleston, SC. We are in our late 40's and had a good time on the ship. Our port of Cozumel was cancelled due to high winds...we were disappointed and was refunded the port charge. The cruiseline threw a rum punch party, probably to make up for the disappointment.

We were on deck 9 aft, which was just right for us. It was easy to get to the activities on deck 10 and food they served. Actually there were a few times when we got the food and ate in our rooms.

There were two things that were a little bothersome. First was a sewage smell that came from inside the toilet. I have read about this from others on message boards and wanted to see for myself if that was the case. Actually I even brought an air freshener which masked the smell a bit. I truly believe that it was the result of a plumbing problem on the ship and is something that needs taken care of. However, it was tolerable...we didn't spend that much time in our cabin. The second thing which is minor, indeed, is that the chocoholics buffet was held at midnight. We sailed on the NCL Dawn in 2003 and I think the Dawn had the chocoholics buffet around 2:00 p.m., which was the perfect time. Midnight was a little too late for me and my husband didn't care in the least.

There are all kinds of activities on the ship. A couple of football games were broadcast. We had fun in the casino. There were a few craft classes and also trivia. The Not-So-Newlywed Game was fun, as well as the Liars Club. The crew and the staff were great. Some food was average and some was very good.

I hope you have a great time on the cruise; if you have any questions, I'd be glad to answer them.

Excuse me for butting in....

A couple questions for Sue.
We are going mid February and am curious, how was the weather the first couple days, was there 1 or 2 formal nights, how was the wait time for the free style dining, any excursion suggestions ?
We have done the conch train in KW, and looking at either paradise beach or ruins for Coz. and no idea for grand cayman

Any other info would be appreciated. Starting to get excited. thanks

NCL Majesty cruise
Hi FrogFuzz and everyone else,

- The day of embarcation was chilly..had to wear a coat, same as with Sunday. Few people used the hot tubs/pools during the cruise, I feel it wasn't hot enough...warm but not hot. However, there are a lot of activities inside that kept us occupied.

- There was one formal night. We actually bought the picture in our formal attire; the photographers paid a lot of attention to details and poses.

- The wait time at the two main dining rooms weren't an issue. We never had to wait longer than 5 minutes. Also, the larger dining room in the back...had a little more engine noise and vibration and little more movement than the smaller one midship. However, both had the same menu. We ate at the Pasta Cafe once, it was nice, reservations required and no extra charge. We didn't eat at Le Bistro, many people gave good reviews about it. We feel that the majority of meals in the main dining rooms were good and if we didn't get a chance to go to Le Bistro, that's OK.. For example, some of the foods in the main dining rooms were lobster tails (2), prime rib, escargot, (grilled steak on deck 10 was good), weiner snitzel (veal), and good deserts such as baked alaska, bananas foster... At the Latitudes Party, they had complementary drinks and hor doeuvres, some with caviar.

- Excursions - At Grand Cayman, we took the Stingray Observatory. That was fun. (It was similar to the Sea and See excursion we took in Nassau in 2003). Our excursion in Cozumel was cancelled since we didn't go there. We scheduled the Jeep eco tour. We almost booked the Tulin ruins, however, it was an all day tour and we were concerned it wouldn't allow much time afterwards to shop in San Miguel. In Key West, we took the conch train tour. It was our first time there and it gave an overview of what's there. Since it only took 90 minutes, we had a lot of time on our own. We walked to the Hemingway House (Whitehead St.) and went on that tour. There are a lot of bars on Duval St. such as Sloppy Joes, Jimmy Buffets Margaretaville, Hogs Breath Saloon...also, there are many souvenir shops along there too. Would you believe that the best prices for Key West teeshirts that I found were at Walgreens on Duval St. They were just as nice as the other shops.

Have a great time! I am thinking about where to go on our next cruise now! :)

My husband and I just celebrated our 37th anniversary on the Majesty. The ship is not the most state of art, but it is comfortable and the ages of the cruisers vary. While I did see a lot of older people (not like us, we are a young middle-aged couple ), the young couples/singles seemed to be having a great time. Check out the shows and the comedian...funny. I was on stage w/him. Plenty of food....nice drinks and great attention to detail all around. She is an old ship, but still has a lot of life in her! Enjoy your cruise. I will be happy to answer any other questions you may have re the cruise.

Thanks for the response guys. Only 39 days away!

Meji23 February 1st, 2006 08:23 AM

I know u will have a blast! Don't forget to p/u a map of the Caribbean at the reception desk. The Captain will autograph it for you. There are many photo ops all around the ship. We purchased sooo many pics for our family and friends. Again...have fun!

frogfuzz February 1st, 2006 11:39 PM

me again. Thanks for the info...

Yikes & Yippee only 9 days now.

I over dressed/packed my 1st cruise. I am getting the impression that nice sweater set type tops , capri pants & leather sandals would be ok for night in the dining room . Correct ?

Meji23 February 2nd, 2006 08:17 AM

You are absolutely correct. We also overpacked. I only really needed 2-3 dressy outfits (no gowns please). My husband packed 3 suits, but only neeed 1 and a sports jacket. The sea was stormy/windy leaving Charleston and arriving, so bring sweaters or light jackets. I did not even make it to the deck that often because of wind. The islands are still not back entirely since Wilma, so check out the tours first if you are going on any. We were able to get our money back from a private tour because of the problems w/the coral reefs in Cozumel. One more thing, the prices on the ship are better than on the islands..liquor and jewely....last day of cruise, a lot of items on sale.
Take care, and have a great time!

smg009322 February 2nd, 2006 11:29 AM

That seems appropriate to wear. I packed too many clothes; I didn't go swimming at all (had 2 swim suits), and a few aerobic outfits (didn't exercise either). However, we used the stairs most of the time. At least that was a little bit of exercise. One day I wanted to go around the walking track a couple of times, but found it too windy.

I hope all of you have a good time and enjoy your cruise!! :D

Hi Ralph,

I was on the Majesty twice. Not your Itinerary, since we boarded in Boston, bound for Bermuda. We loved the ship The attention of the crew & waIt staff was very good. Food & entertainment was also very good.

One reason that we chose this ship, was the closeness to home-----no need to fly.

The capris and sweater-sets will be perfect for this ship. Some people dress every night, but you don't have to. I brought 1 dressy dress for formal night. Many people remained in their resort casual, and they, too, looked nice.
