Hi, I'm new here, just registered and new to cruising. Went on my first cruise with my mother (she is frequent cruiser due to airline benefits, thus very good deals). We went on the Spirit out of New York on April 2nd, to the Bahamas. I loved the cruise, but found it overwhelming as I wasn't prepared for it. Plus I missed my family bigtime. I am now saving up for another NCL cruise to take my husband and three kids on (ages 13, 11, 6). We are thinking of the Dawn just to try something different. We are thinking of cruising in December to try to avoid the bad weather driving of January or February. We plan on driving from Quebec to NYC. If anyone has any suggestions about whether to take to Spirit or the Dawn, I would love to hear from you. I also thought it might be fun, since we are bringing the kids, to "speak" with other families who may be planning a cruise at around the same time. We are pretty flexible about the dates because we take advantage of the airline discounts (my father retired from Air Canada) which are always last minute (a couple of weeks before the cruise). My children are the quiet type but do like to have fun, my husband and myself are very quiet, especially my husband, so I would like to bring him out of his shell to enjoy this trip. He has never been anywhere tropical and I am anxious for him to love this trip. When I cruised with my mother I didn't take the opportunity to meet anyone because I really needed a rest and actually enjoyed spending time just relaxing and reading and working out (the gym on the Spirit was amazing!!!) My mother is into the casino and is a smoker so she hooked up with that crowd, however I prefer the quiet time the ship offers. I actually watched a few movies in the cabin. Anyway sorry to ramble on, thought I would just introduce myself and if anyone has any information to share or any suggestions, I am totally open to hearing them. Thanks so much.
I went on the Dawn 2 years ago. My son whos was 5 years old at the time had a great time on and off the ship. he loved the kids center and never wanted to leave. We went to the zoo in Miami which was alot of fun we took pictures holding snakes, parrots, and my son even got to hold a baby alligator. We all had alot of fun. We did the disney park in Port Canaveral which is always nice for the family. The private island in the bahamas was beautiful the water was so clear. We also did the dolphin excursion when we stopped in the bahamas. The ship was excellent, food was good, kids activities were endless. You will have a great vacation on this boat with your family. I am looking to book the RC Spirit, I wll have a 18 month old by the time we go. I am a little nervous about options for his age. We will also be going with another couple who will have a 2 year old. Hopefully, we are going to make the right choice.
